Disappointed for the price

Ate Sunday lunch there and expected better for the cost. Disappointing choice of vegetables and they were not served quickly enough. The meat could have been much more tender. The atmosphere for a little country pub was delightful and the staff welcoming, but if I was to visit again I would... read more

The atmosphere for a little country pub was delightful and the staff welcoming, but if I was to visit again I would choose a meal from the menu.

Visited here to take my 90 yr old mother to lunch before Christmas. The pub was busy and my mum found it too noisy. We were told to look at the blackboard on the wall for menus but due to people standing in front of it we could not read it. No written menu provided so barman shouted out the... More

It's difficult for me to be wholly objective here as I've known the pub for a long time and preferred it when Geoff and Cecily ran it. It was less pretentious, more friendly and altogether better. The next owners put the emphasis on food and updated the interior and changed the nature and character of the pub and the core... More

Were going to the Bell in Eccleshall but kitchen closed. Had heard of the Star Inn so gave it a try. Full beer garden and pub hosting several locals with full barstaff attention . Eventually they noticed me and yes still serving lunches. Small menu choice so roast beef and roast chicken ordered. Think they assumed the chicken was for... More

On a bike ride and thought I would nip in and have a look at the menu for a meal on another occasion... Dont think I will bother,My hello was ignored as the landlady and landlord were to involved with people they were talking to and then not even a thankyou when I got my drink. Manners cost nothing but... More

We visited for lunch and were not disappointed. The beer was in excellent condition, I had a Draught Bass which is quite difficult to find nowadays, Brewed under contract by Marston's now, but the unique Bass taste was still present. We had sandwiches and a portion of chips which were well presented, tasty and portion size was good. This pub is... More

We ate here on Saturday night and had starters and main courses. I had pâté to start which was very nice and was a good sized portion. I then had a mixed grill off the specials board. The meat was very tasty, the only let down was it being a bit too well done for my liking (wasn't asked how... More

Ordered mushrooms with blue cheese and bacon £ 6.75 and hubby ordered prawns. The prawns were floating in butter and the mushrooms were plain garlic - no cheese or bacon. Bit of a rip off. Steak was cooked well done as requested Veg looked a bit grey so little unappetising. The menu does say that foodis cooked fresh but it... More

I have been a regular at The Star since 1972 and seen it through many reincarnations. It has gone from the occasional sandwich to wonderful 3course meals. Elaine and Simon always give a warm welcome and work hard on community involvement. A pub with no music so you can actually have a conversation ! Community involvement here is a by... More

I have been to the Star Inn a number of times now, the food has been bland and expensive every time. Very disappointing steaks which I personally think are frozen. The staff I just find not interested in caring for their customers.
