The Ramblers Retreat is an award winning country tearoom nestled in the Dimmingsdale, part of the beautiful Churnet Valley in Staffordshire. Our menu is homemade using only the best ingredients, many of which are sourced from local suppliers in the Staffordshire Moorlands. And as well as a delicious meal you can also enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of Dimmingsdale, this spectacular valley by following one of the established woodland walks. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Set back away from Alton village amongst beautiful scenery the owners have really capitalised on the building's history and location. The option to dine outside in a quaint summer hut is novel and well implemented. There is a large outdoor seating area which I gladly experienced twice in the summer. The menu is typical and quite traditional (ham and cheese... More

Walked here from a campsite with the dog. Was a bit dubious as our dog is still young and therefore gets excited around people and other dogs so needed somewhere where we could sit away from people. Needn't have worried as the seating area is large enough with little nooks around the place and we found somewhere far enough away.... More

This is a gem of a place located on the Alton to Oakamoor by lane in the Churnet Valley Staffs. Apart from the cafe serving a good choice of meals and coffees/cakes and ice cream etc the location of this establishment is idyllic. Next to a Forestry Commission car park the cafe presents a fantastic outdoor area with parasols and... More

Extensive menu, locally sourced produce, home made food, conservatory seating/ snug seating/ outdoor seating including in private sheds = bliss. A great place to eat fine food and to chillax.

We enjoyed a family Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday. Set in the beautiful area of Dimmingsdale with indoor seating (booking advisable) or outdoors in the garden (undercover) or the potting sheds surrounded by the lovely garden. Full varied menu of main meals, snacks and gorgeous puddings and cakes. Good vegetarian selection. Staff attentive friendly and helpful and provided a... More

This little gem is off the beaten path I had the week off work when the boy was at school so it was really quiet but I imagine it gets busy when the kids are off or at weekends, the food is brilliant, rustic and traditional done really well. To sit in the back garden and while away an hour... More
