We visited here on Saturday 08/03/14 after parking the car by the start of the disused North Staffordshire Railway to walk along the old track to The Ramblers Retreat, which is very pleasant. There are a couple of car parks by the Retreat but its nicer to walk along the old railway track. We managed to get a table for... More

My girlfriend and I visited the Ramblers Retreat for lunch, before our stay at the nearby Secret Cloud House Holiday site. It is a lovely little place, seemingly tucked out of the way of main roads and traffic noise. The building is lovely and very cosy and comfy inside. It is not a huge place and booking is advised, even... More

We decided to go here today as we love to go walking. We chose the red route which was perfect for us and our six year old. Once we arrived back at the retreat we decided to have a spot of afternoon lunch. We had the Sunday roast which was just like my nan used to make proper homemade. The... More

I visited the Ramblers Retreat with my family. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and visiting the beautiful woodland- Dimmingsdale! The food was lovely I especially enjoyed the homemade steak, ale and mushroom pie as well as their famous Lemon meringue pie for desert. The staff are really friendly and the conservatory provides a lovely setting with great views of the... More

We visited this restaurant on a Friday lunchtime. On entering the restaurant, it was a little over half full, but all the remaining tables were reserved. We had to eat in the outside area. We were told we could sit in a summer house for shelter - it was a cold February. In fact there were only three small summer... More

Enjoyed loads of lunches and afternoon teas here and never been disappointed. A proper family business started by the current proprietors Mum and Dad and sustaining lovely service and presentation. Beautiful conservatory and really novel summerhouses in the well tended gardens make this place a pleasure to visit. Have enjoyed their legendary lemon meringue pie for 30years. Make it a... More

It is a very pleasant 3 mile walk to Dimmingsdale. Enjoy the beautiful scenery along The Churnet River as you ramble on one of the many Forestry Commission routes in the picturesque Churnet Valley in the Staffordshire Moorlands. At the end of your walk, please don't miss a very special place - The Rambler's Retreat - this has to be... More

A group of us called at the weekend, not booked but staff were wonderful and managed to accommodate us. Food was excellent, steak and ale pie and the best chips ever. Staff were wonderful and so friendly. Completely recommend.

Thought I'd reviewed before but can't find it. In a nutshell - best for hot chocolate outside on a cold day looking at the birdies feeding, for soup and a sandwich after a nice long walk round Oakamoor Alton and Greendale, for a pre-Xmas treat (best pate EVER, and stunning roast turkey with trimmings), for a birthday treat (because the...
