Four of us had a lovely meal sitting in the upstairs dining room of this historic pub. The food was very good value and there was lots of it. The young people who served us were very polite and the food came at a reasonable speed. It's a local pub so plenty of atmosphere and you can always walk off... More

Called in The King Alfred after a day out in Somerset while on holiday. We received a lovely welcome from the staff behind the bar along with a cold pint of Carlsberg. Both our starters and main course were excellent and we noticed that the people next to us also had a wonderful meal. We called in the next day... More

No pretentions here, just a very good locals pub with honest good value food. I have been several times its always busy. The Landlord/Lady have got it just right. This place was in the midst of the 2014 flooded area in the Somerset Levels

Excellent home cooked food at bargain prices... Tues - sat lunch for only £5! Quality you would pay twice the price for elsewhere .. Sunday lunch the best in area . Make sure you book to avoid disappointment . Also £5 meal available on Wednesday nights.. The food at the price is unbelievable!! A la carte menu available other evenings... More

I fully agree with the recent positive reviews of this pub. Very friendly (staff and locals !) , good beer and they have really got it together with the food. We have been over for Sunday lunch a few times now and the food is excellent value.

At last a proper pub! It ticked every boxed for excellent beer, super home cooked food and an incredibly warm welcome. The lass behind the bar couldn't do enough for us and we were made to feel really welcome. The menu is good honest food and very reasonably priced. We thoroughly enjoyed the beer on offer. Really can't wait to... More

We visited recently for a Sunday roast and were amazed by the food . We got large portions with. Lots of fresh veg . However the service was poor we waited over an hour for food , weren't checked on during our meal and had to ask for our plates to be cleared . Desserts also took an age and... More

We first came here a month ago after family moved in down the road, and tried out the Sunday lunch. We all had "the works" and it was brilliant! Meats cooked to perfection, everything home cooked and real gravy! With a few drinks from the excellent selection of ales and ciders at the bar, we left happy and full. We... More

Looked after all of us (ITV news) during the floods. You might not know it from the outside but this place is a hidden gem. Delicious food and unpretentious

Excellent food here on New Years Day, We both had ham, eggs and chips. Locally sourced ham was in plentiful supply and as it was a Wednesday was part of their special deals which cost only £5 a head and there is a good choice on the menu. They know exactly what is in all their foods as they make... More
