Great value

I called in for lunch whilst cycling round the Levels. Half a dozen main courses at a fiver including excellent ham egg and chips. I followed it with sticky toffee pudding and washed down with a well kept pint of Otter Ale. Cheerful staff. Total bill £11.30,

We had lunch here today for the first time and what an experience. We had a lovely welcome from all the staff. It was a very wet July lunchtime and we were amazed to find the pub very full - it is a typical olde country pub. The choice of real ales were good, and according to my partner, well... More

Just had dinner at The King Alfred, visit frequently but wanted to have one last £5 dinner before the land lady moves on and new landlord and lady move in. Old and rustic Inn but always filled to the brim with laughing chatty eaters. Do not look too closely at your surroundings ( could do with refurbishment) but enjoy the... More

booked with friends, but was very let down, I know it is the process of changing hands, but there was no one there, a few tables down stairs a few up satires and no one in the little room out the back, it is normally full to the brim, and there are locals drinking at the bar. I am so... More

Went for an evening meal. Did not book, but arrived early. Food lovely, my only complaint I needed a sauce to go with my onion and goats cheese tart. Will be going back. Found a lovely new cider called Chedder Valley. Strongly recommend if you like your cider. Staff lovely.

What a find! We arrived late, too late (thanks to a motorway snarl up) for the kitchen to be open. Disappointment, but one of the bar staff took pity on weary, hungry travellers and volunteered to have a hunt round the kitchen. In a trice, he rustled up some excellent Cumberland sausage, cheddar cheese and salad ciabatta rolls. Most welcome,... More

We booked here for Easter Sunday lunch for four adults and a toddler. As always a very pleasant experience with friendly staff. We ordered THE WORKS To eat which was a selection of three meats, stuffings balls the size of apples and plenty of veg. Never before have I looked for the smallest roast potato to put on my plate!... We stopped here for lunch on a week day and found the pub nearly full, so better book before you go! We tried the "lunch for £5" and I have never had such good food for such a ridiculously small price. There was plenty of choice. I had the fish pie - a mixture of white fish, prawns, scallops (YES!)... More
