The Royal Oak has been taken over by the Smokehouse Grill who run another successful restaurant in Oswestry. It was only the 2nd night for the new owners but everything was fine. We all enjoyed our meals and they were served in a particularly friendly manner.

We were staying in the Oswestry area and looking for somewhere to eat on a Monday night, we rang up and were told if we got there fairly soon we could eat from a limited menu, that suited us fine so we headed over. The Royal Oak is a lovely cosy proper pub, they had set up a table by... More

We booked here for a get together with friends. I reserved a table as thought the Saturday before Christmas would be busy but we're pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The first drink choice had just run out so not to worry went with second choice. We were given our table by a friendly barmaid we were told the menu was... More

The Royal Oak is the real deal - a proper pub with genuinely friendly staff & great atmosphere, serving excellent home cooked food in enormous quantities. Maureen & her team even converted me into an ale drinker for the evening such was the quality of the beer on offer! This lovely landlady did all she could and more to make... More

We visited after reading the Trip Adviser reviews & we're not disappointed. It was the delightful landlady's birthday so everyone was in a grand mood. This is a family- run pub & it shows. The service (Amy) was very good & the food was our best meal we had in our week in this part of the country. Real value... More

Back at the Oak last night for dinner, my partner is gluten intolerant, however they will make the batter for the fish with gluten free flower if you ask them to, in my opinion it is even better than normal wheat flour, very crisp, no soggy bits, and with the very good quality fish they source amounts to the best... A glorious spot just off the Offa's Dyke path. Our thanks to Maureen who allowed us to camp in the pub garden. The evening meal was not only colossal, but exceptionally tasty and excellent value for money. The ale alone should earn this pub a place in The Good Beer Guide; the Cambrian Gold was heavenly. Without the immense brekky... More

Having visited The Royal Oak, Treflach on many occasions either as a couple or for a birthday celebration the food has consistently been excellent. Any variations are catered for in a 'family style' atmosphere. Well done in a difficult commercial time you are forging ahead.

5 of us at at the The Oak on friday night, the were busy but the service was great, we forewent our normal friday night fish and chips and asked Maureen (the land lady) if she would make one of her excellent paella's, learnt from when she had her restaurant in Spain, it was wonderful, the rice was beautifully cooked... Our party of four had booked a table on Thursday 26th June, and on arrival we were treated warmly and efficiently and shown to our table. Drinks were ordered and brought to us. The furniture is a little quirky but it matches the ambience of the building, however although we waited a little while for our first course to arrive,... More
