Pleasant staff, very quiet lunchtime had heard good reviews, sad to say I was disappointed and embarresed having suggested we visit . Food not good enough garlic bread was just a slice of bread with garlic butter on . I'm sure this can't be normal .

We went for a drive on Sunday and popped in to the Hand and Shears on the off chance they had a table. They did. The welcome was warm and friendly and I ordered the lamb kleftiko which was supposed to be cooked in wine with lemon and my partner went for the peppered steak pie. The kleftiko was not... More

We were looking for any roadside pub that was ready to give us food. We saw a very small sign at the side of a country road pointing to a likely eating house. We were so pleasantly surprised. Great atmosphere and ambiance and plenty of legroom whilst retaining an impression of coziness. An open fire and varied menu gave us... More

This is a friendly and welcoming pub a couple of villages on from the one in which I live. The staff are welcoming and friendly. We were there on a quiet weeknight and service from the kitchen was prompt. The menu is an interesting one with some standard pub items but others with a bit of a twist. I had... More

We were staying in a local cottage for New Years and decided to visit the local for a few drinks and some food. The pub itself is lovely, exactly how you'd imagine a country establishment to look and feel. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and the food was excellent. I had the confit of duck and my girlfriend... More

Our first Christmas lunch here and we were not disappointed. Starters of perfectly cooked scallops in pesto cream and a wonderful Scotch egg with a difference, chopped mushroom with breadcrumbs surrounding a soft boiled egg, were delicious. We both had free range goose and turkey with orange and thyme stuffing bacon-wrapped with seasonal vegetables The turkey (a very generous portion)... More

Have eaten here on many occasions, as it was the main lunchtime venue choice of my elderly parents who were tremendously well looked after by Chris, the landlord, for a number of years. He went out of his way to welcome them and be attentive to their wants, in a completely genuine way. The meals have always been delicious on... More

Went here for a business lunch. Nice place, very friendly and attentive staff, nice owner, very pleasant and polite.. BUT .. the menu is somewhat dated and this is illustrated by the age demographic here of a lunchtime ... oap city!! If you like a full 'dinner' at lunchtime, then great. I'd prefer a more modern menu with lighter choices.... More
