Can you find a more authentic pub in England? I am a pub lover and tend to visit many establishments around the country, but it is difficult to find a place like this one, with fresh beer, great food, cosy ambience, excellent service and lovely atmosphere - if every pub were like The Hand and Shears ...

Well cooked food with a modern presentation. Good varied menu with reasonable prices although theses days starters and deserts are getting somewhat pricy. Free wi fi is a big plus. Would certainly return if in the area.

We arrived early for a 1 p.m. Sunday lunch but were seated (with a well-kept pint of Wells’ Eagle) within moments. The service throughout was excellent, both from the young and polite waiting staff and from the landlord himself. My mother in law and I chose the seabass fillet with asparagus for starters: it was a light, delicate, lemony concoction... More

We stumbled across this pub after a very long day at the 2014 Game Fair at Blenheim. Immediately made to feel welcome. Fast service, and the most delicious dinner. My partner is fussy. There is always something that he doesn't approve of. But this was fantastic. The starters were delicious. For the main course I had the most delicious crab... More

Passing through this afternoon on way to Ross On Wye. Stopped off for a spot of lunch and were very impressed. The pub is beautiful. It has been thoughtfully extended and looks as though it has recently been refurbished. The decor has rustic charm with an open vaulted ceiling exposing the beams. The dining area is light, airy and spacious... More

We count ourselves very lucky to live within a mile or so of The Hand and Shears now that Chris and team have taken it in hand. They are the best thing to happen to the pub since it was so well extended by Steve Chick a good ten years ago. The thought and care that goes in to the... More

Although easy to reach by car, our walk down "coffin run" through the fields in May bloom gave us a chance to anticipate our second meal at the Hand and Shears in as many weeks. From the roasted potatoes (just the right texture) to the hand grated horseradish for the beef, our food was the best we had. Vegetarians will... More

We have been guests at the Hand and Shears for many years as we live locally. It is fair to say it has had its share of ups and downs. Tonight's visit was faultless. Despite being terribly short-staffed, Chris and his team did a marvellous job. The chicken, bacon and leek pie was the best pie I have had in... More

Well, where do I start, I have been coming here for 2 years or so as a semi-regular, and I consider it the "go to" place for good food, GREAT beer (a feat failed so miserably by most locals, try the "Eagle" it's a corker)) for a reasonable charge, so for me to read Jaydubyou's (I took a guess on... Just had a delightful lunch here. The slow roasted blade of beef was to die for. Served with fresh vegetables and smiley staff. Great atmosphere and loved the dog stretched out by the fireplace. Will certainly go back again
