Great welcome and atmosphere very good. was visiting with work colleagues. The host is very friendly and has a great selection of ales and ciders!
We had a wonderful birthday celebration here, great vegetarian nosh, ale and the friendliest landlord in the South! He even produced a wonderful chocolate cake for the birthday boy (without charge!).
Visited tonight with my friends on a first visit. As a non-vegetarian was happy to try out this place as others in our group are vegetarians and wanted to try. Well, I am a complete convert and think this is a new favourite of mine from now on! Food was absolutely delicious - cheesy bake and tasty salad on a... More
I'm so glad that you enjoyed the hospitality, there's nothing pretentious about what I do - but I care passionately about standards and am delighted that it all met with your approval. Thank you for your glowing report. It makes me happier than you know. x More
We were really looking forward to our visit - partner and daughter are both vegetarians. The side salads were great but all of the dishes we had were very disappointing. Maybe we just made the wrong choices. The landlord was a lovely man, very friendly and making a point of talking to all of his customers.
I am extremely sorry that you were disappointed with your meal; it is my intention for every customer to enjoy every part of the experience but clearly on this occasion I have failed. During the course of your meal I asked twice, as I always do, if everything was to your satisfaction. The only feedback I received was at the... More
Delicious food, very friendly people (staff and patrons) and definitely somewhere I will visit again. According to the locals their beers are excellent too, some are homebrews. I only wish I was more of a drinker so I could enjoy their large beer selection.
We were kindly fitted in as the main dining room was fully booked, and in the end we had our own private dining room :-). Fabulous quirky pub, with lots of real ales, and the food is outstanding. The portions are huge but every mouthful very flavoursome. Very imaginative menu and great that everything is vegetarian. Highly recommended whether you... More
This restaurant is extremely hard to get into, booking is an absolute must, and it's obvious why from the moment you walk through the door. This is a lovely, old-fashioned English pub that simply oozes atmosphere. The ales are all excellent and expertly kept. The vegetarian menu is truly outstanding: all food is freshly prepared, portions are enormous and our... More
lovely starters - the chilli dip and the spicy hummus with falafel and warm bread...main course equally great - no room for pud. all washed down with really good selection of beers and ciders. We've eaten here twice midweek recently - no disappointments and v friendly place. We'll keep coming back...
The place was recommended by b&b. was a bit hesitant going into the pub having such a name, being a vegan. However, we had a great outcome. Great vegan chickpea and spinach pie, with pastry that made you keep eating. Peter who runs the place and cooked our food was a very warm and gentle man, who really aimed to... More
I just had to write a review after reading the rather grumpy review from a Kenneth D who prob needs to visit again to get a better idea of the pub. I have to say this is my favorite pub by a mile and am chuffed to have recently moved back to Wantage so am now stomping distnace from it... More
