A Surprise Lunch

We passed The Sun Inn and decided to call in for a mid week lunch. Although steak and chips doesn't tax most chefs it's not unknown to have a poor meal, but not on this occasion, and the deserts - we both had the same - raspberry panna cotta - which were delicious. We frequent this watering hole when staying in Morpeth, usually on a Friday evening. They always have a live band on. Who are always of good standard. Last Friday evening we were disappointed by the standard of service and the clearing of vacant tables. I stood at the bar for nearly 5 minutes waiting to be served, having to wait... More

Called in for lunch without booking, staff were very accomodating and gave us a large table to accomodate for our twin toddlers. Food was lovely and very tasty. The steak on my mixed grill was suprisingly good quality as usually on mixed grills it is quite tough. Dessert was also nice.

Visited for a Fathers day lunch at this popular venue. arrived to be seated in the downstairs dining area. The area was a little cramped and a bit too warm but this soon changed once the windows were opened by another group. We all opted for the pork Sunday lunch which when arrived was beautiful and if anything to generous... More

We noticed that the bar is now dog friendly so decided to come along for Sunday lunch with our pooch. Big hearty portions were served, huge yorkshires just the way I like them, thick slices of pork with crackling, my partner thought the pork was a bit dry and bowls of veg to accompany it including the best turnip I... We wanted a late Sunday lunch so made a reservation for a party of seven at 4pm. Our table was ready but we noticed the restaurant was almost full, despite the comparative lateness. We were given menus and ordered drinks which arrived quickly and our orders were taken. These ranged from just a soup and a dessert to six main... More

Called in without booking. Very pleasant young man showed us to our table. The menus are dog eared and the choice of dishes hasn't changed in all of the years we have been going. The meal tonight was awful. The gammon was so tough I couldn't manage more than a few mouthfuls. A rather sad salad on the plate was terrible.... More

Lovely pub/restaurant, very friendly staff and a nice outdoor eating area. Food was good although pork fillet was a bit on the dry side, other meals were fine, however the portion sizes are huge and none of us were able to fully do justice to them which was a shame. The whale of a cod really was a whale and... More

Usually go earlier in the day, but had to wait until the final of the French Open....poor Novak. Restaurant quieter than usual, but got my favourite corner table and ordered the Pork. Don't have to look at the menu, pork is always delicious here and with a good bit of crackling. Always too many vegetables for me, but lovely ...... More
