Good but slightly disappointed

I had heard very good reviews of the restaurant and was probably expecting more. Arrived with friends and had a pleasant greeting by the staff and shown to our table where we were quickly given menus and asked what we wanted to drink. This is the most wonderful place that you should stop at when passing. The food is great and we had the separate small dining room for the 8 of us which was perfect. We also stayed overnight in one of their splendid rooms, just beautiful 😋. Breakfast in the morning just topped off a great stay. Just do it !!!... More

Thanks so much for your wonderful review and so glad your family 'get together' was enjoyed by all. My son and I arrived at about 4.oopm on the off chance of getting a table for Sunday Lunch. The place was very busy but we where given a table without having to wait. The waitresses where lovely and pleasant, the Sirloin on Beef just melted in your mouth. A lovely relaxed atmosphere, service with a smile and delicious food,... More

Went to this restaurant last night with a large party. The service in the bar and the restaurant was really nice and friendly. The fish sharing platter was a delight, the whiterbait being particulalry delicious. There were 13 of us and we all had excellent mains too. The deserts were large and tasty. First rate gastropub.

Four of us had lunch this week at The Northumberland Arms having picked it solely for its location half way between Count Durham and the Scottish Borders. It is in a delightful location overlooking the river, the staff were friendly and polite and the food was good. The fish starter included local Craster kipper pate which was delicious, and they... Called in for late lunch / early tea. Place had been busy as staff were busy trying to clear backlog of dirty glasses. However had no trouble getting table. Ordered pie of the day which staff jokingly referred to as pie of the hour! What was described as steak and mushroom pie was actually left over slice roast beef, watery... More

Thank you for your constructive feedback - we take all comments on board. Having spoken with our Chef, I am informed that the Beef Brisket used in the pie was fresh Brisket (ie not from meat previously unused); rather that the meat is sliced and put into our fresh pie which is a very popular dish on our menu. However,... More

The pub and restaurant were both busy when we arrived which made us hopeful of a good evening. We were seated in the extension which was a little soulless and given menus - we sat for some time before being served and our order taken. The menu was traditional pub fayre - we had the scotch egg to start which... More

Thank you for your feedback and sorry to hear you were less than happy with your Fish Pie. Having spoken with our chefs, I am told it is very difficult to control the distribution of the actual fish within the Pie (which included Salmon, Cod, Prawns and Scallop roe). We just wish you'd mentioned this to your server to allow... More
