A very welcome break on our journey North

Traffic jam on the A1, getting hungry, followed sign to totally random pub. And a lovely pub it is too! Welcoming, relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff in a very attractive setting. Even the toilets are stylish! I decided to have the roast of the day, which was chicken. Not a huge amount - a... read more

Having had several recommendations, we went for lunch today and were sadly disappointed. The menu was very unimaginative, though to be fair it was Sunday lunch. The smorgersbrod of fish as a starter was a couple of pieces of fish and a spoonful of kipper pate, all of which had been certainly sitting around most of the morning. Very unappetising... More

I think the trouble with places where the hype is huge, and people talk about this amazing place, your expectations are understandably raised. And ours were about The Northumberland Arms. We called on spec one Sunday lunchtime, and to our complete surprise the lovely welcoming staff were able to squeeze us in. We ordered the expensive rare sliced beef, rather... More

Beautiful pub in a great location which has fantastic ambiance and decor, not to mention the delicious food! We have been for dinner and Sunday lunch here and both times have been outstanding. The food quality is exceptional (the beef for Sunday dinner was particularly top notch). Really can't fault our experience at all and will most definitely be back!... More

Met up with our son and his girlfriend who were completing the coast to coast route on foot. It was late afternoon but full menu still available. My husband enjoyed a choice of two pies of the day. He chose lamb which was huge and served with chunky chips and garden peas. The two young one each enjoyed a huge... More

Visited with girlfriend, let me start by saying, what fab wine glasses.... we have visited before and found staff to be quite pleasant and professional, this time not quite as good, just ordered burgers, they weren't overly exciting to be fair, no relish, Mayo, salad,, fairly plain and distinctly average, mars bar mouse was dreadful, no flavour at all, I... We have visited the Northumberland Arms quite a few times. Booking is essential as it does get very busy particularly for Sunday lunch. The menu is not huge however there is a good choice. Vegetarian friends think their choice is limited though. I feel the starter portions are a little on the small side for the price however main courses... More

Returned to the Northumberland Arms for Sunday Lunch 26/ 4/2015. Was slightly dubious as there has been one or two bad reviews lately. Needn't have worried. Very pleasant and attentive staff. Seated, food and drinks ordered in a short space of time. Food excellent for quality and quantity. Three times we were asked if everything was ok. Staff always there... More
