We choose this restaurant as it's equidistant between our house and the relatives we tend to meet there and we invariably look forward to our visits. The food - as we go on a Sunday we chose the excellent value carvery - is plentiful and good value. The Yorkshire puddings are the largest - in height - that I've ever... More

We visited during the Christmas holidays and had the "three course pensioners special" - even though designed for pensioners the meals are always hot, tasty and good portion sizes - great value for money. The staff are always very friendly and the atmosphere is relaxing. Whenever we are in Alnwick we always have lunch at this lovely hotel.

Hotel is looking rather tierd but staff & atmosphere are not, the staff were friendly & the food very nice although a few dishes are slightly overpriced. Overall i would go back but would'nt make a special journey.

Visited The Oaks this evening to take advantage of the Groupon Fish and Chips deal and what value it was. Fish beautiful with lovely crisp batter and hand cut chips plus mushy peas and bread and butter all served piping hot. We succumbed to desserts (sticky toffee pudding and Geordie Lemon Tart) which were also lovely. Would certainly consider visiting... More

Visited on Friday evening with my partner on a Living Social Deal "fish and chip" offer. We had booked a table as the restaurant and bar area were both very busy ( good sign) the fish and chips were lovely served with some white bread and butter that had to be transferred to a chip butty!! Hand cut chips were... More

I ate at the oaks on Thursday 18th September with friends 4 in total. Two of us ordered steak and ale pie, but it most definitely NO PIE. It was a dish of beef stew with a piece of puff pastry plonked on top. I did suggest that the chef look up pie in the dictionary. The other two ordered... More

Alnwick was our first destination on our two week road trip around Northumberland, and after the seven hour drive up from Norfolk we arrived around 7.30pm and we pretty much picked the first place we saw, and we were glad we did. The staff were helpful and polite and very helpful when we asked them for help on places to... More

Me & the wife stayed here as out friends were getting married locally. I've got to say the rooms are like something from the 80's with old teak MFI reject furniture, the carpet is really worn & thin & stained. The bathroom isn't nice either, again tired & old and terrible flooring that resembles a public toilets floor. I wouldn't... More

It's always difficult to know where to eat out when you are in a place you don't know and with a 12 year old granddaughter in tow. What is available on the menu has to be appropriate for adults and the youngster as well. So we ate here on the first night of our three-night holiday in Alnwick because it... More
