Not what I was expecting - in a good way!

We'd been told that the Joiner's Arms was worth a visit and we expected some quaint little pub with old seafaring pictures on the wall and frequented by the odd local. We weren't expecting a Gastro Pub with modern decor and smart staff dressed head to toe in black. We arrived just after 12 noon... read more

I hate to give a bad review as I choose restaurants very carefully. We have had really nice sandwiches before and as a result we chose here- mistake. The main menu seems centred on dishes in batter. One of our starters, squid, was battered even though the menu did not mention it. We chose the vegetarian main course of beetroot... More

I have been going to the Joiners with my wife and two young children since it was refurbished and reopened a few years ago. We have a holiday home in Beadnell so are up here a lot. It started off really good with lovely food and great service. Over the past couple of years we have become increasingly disappointed with... More

Cracking place - really good food, always top notch. Good choices, good portions and not at all what you would expect. AND you can sit outside, wait for the bus and still have time to finish your pint before it leaves!

We were recommended to the Joiners and when we were arrived were greeted with a sign proclaiming a 5 star B&B. Without a doubt, the place was busy, and we were looking for somewhere to eat that evening. We ordered a pot of tea for two, which seemed to be a bit of a challenge for the person who served... Arrived at this pub and was seated very quickly, order was taken efficiently but unfortunately everything seemed to go downhill from here. It was clearly busy, but it took 15 mins for the drinks to arrive. We then waited for a further 45 mins and absolutely no sign of any food. I asked one of the of the staff if... More

This ought to be a good pub but it's emphasis on the 'gastro' dilutes its achievements. The food is pretty good, try the fish n chips or burgers, but it's real ale is not up to scratch (so stick to bottles or keg)

We went on spec without booking and were given a lovely table by the window. I ordered gammon and my husband prosciutto wrapped chicken. My gammon arrived with home cooked chips and his chicken sitting on a bed of beans. He asked the waiter if any vegetables came with it, and the waiter agreed it should have some so took... More
