Swell Cafe Bar has a prominent position in the old village of Robin Hood’s Bay, with seating terraces overlooking the village and beck to one side and sea to the other. Forget the "high street coffee chains" Swell is a little independent trying to provide the best coffee together with fresh simple food! Open daily from 10am to 4.30pm.

Lovely setting and nice menu but service all over the show

Staff seemed stretched and things a bit chaotic. It's not easy sometimes and appreciate that but service could definitely have been much more pleasant. Hopefully one off rather than the norm.

We visited Swell Cafe for lunch, following a bracing coastal walk from Whitby. We stay in the area at least a couple of times a year and always make sure we visit RHB and Swell on each occasion where invariably we enjoy the soup and sandwich combo. I was relieved to be escaping the cold when we entered and so... More

Good to see that Swell is ranked 3 out of 14 in RHB restaurants, but it's not really a restaurant. More of a coffee shop that sells snacks. Visited on January 3rd, with the wife. Ordered two Cappucinos, and a Bacon, Sausage, and Mushroom Sandwich, that came on a Roll. The coffees COULD have been hotter, but boy, the Roll... More

Excellent little coffee shop with a sea view. The coffee - Americano - and the tiffins (white and milk chocolate) were great. They display art works within the cafe which you can buy.

Always have a coffee and cake at Swell Cafe when at Robin Hood's Bay. Great views when sitting on the patio.

Let's get the negatives out the way first. None of the staff have attended charm school. They all looked miserable and the one who had a face like a dropped meat pie was downright rude. It is by no means obvious that you can't smoke on there lovely outside terrace but when the lady who transgressed apologized they had a... More

I only popped in here for a pot of tea, but I was served promptly with a smile. I was given a pot of hot water to accompany the tea, something that is not often offered these days. There is an area to sit outside front and back of the café and dogs are allowed.

Its well positioned on a hill.so you can sit outside at the front & look over the road from a nice vantage point looking down on the road leading down to Robin Hoods Bay. At the rear is another outside seating so you can view the Bay. The seating was a little basic with plastic chairs, but the coffee &... More

Called in at swell during our recent 3 nite visit to Robin Hoods Bay. Lovely views out to sea. Between us we had the soup of the day, toasted teacake, cake and tea it was all very tasty. Would definitely return next we are in RHB. An enjoyable snack with great views.
