Excellent food and service

We like looking on TA for good food on journeys rather rather than stopping at the food stations run by aliens locally known as motorway services. So on a trip to York discovered the Three Hares. On arrival we were greeted kindly and politely and the staff had no problem of us just making our... read more

We went for a friends birthday and sadly it was very disappointing. They had never heard of Campari when we ordered pre dinner drinks! One look at the menu filled me with foreboding - it was too extensive for any proper restaurant or pub to be be able to provide the options freshly prepared. The bread was stale "baguette" warmed... We booked to take my mum for a meal here for her birthday as we hadn't been before. After ordering drinks we were told that the wine chosen was the last bottle. We ordered food, all different and unfortunately all as disappointing. For various reasons most of the food was uneaten. We were never asked if we wanted drinks, never... More

Very friendly staff, good menu and fast service. Food was excellent, my son thought the lamb rogan josh was the best he'd tasted with very tender meat. Well worth a visit if you're in the area and want to try some good home cooked food

What can we say apart from.... perfection!. We have eaten in many restaurants, some very expensive. The food at the Three Hares is cooked and served to a very high standard, that is not usually found in a village pub. The menu is fantastic, staff are amazing and massive prase for the chef. Please go visit this pub , you... More

We left the road due to heavy traffic, and stumbled across The Three Hares. We were looking for a light lunch and were allowed to have something each from the starter menu. My husband chose the pulled pork croquettes (he said they were delicious) and I had the chicken liver and prosciutto salad, which was fabulous. The livers melted in... More

After making a reservation at last minute with a polite helpful lady on phone all seemed good. A polite young man served our drinks and showed us to the table. After waiting about 20 mins for our order to be taken. We ordered a trio of sausage and gammon as our main courses. A while later a our order arrived... More

We came across the Three Hares whilst househunting near York - we dropped in on spec and received a warm welcome, and a table to ourselves in the new annex. Service was prompt - we ordered starters of soup (delicious) and garlic mushrooms ( also delicious). For main courses we had chosen roast chicken, and pork sunday dinners - beautifully... More

Good, wholesome substantial rustic food. Well presented. Not nouvelle cuisine, but certainly not basic pub food. A bit on the pricy, a bit, but it is the country area of York after all. Will certainly go again. New ownership, good luck to them, will be interesting to see how things are in three years.

my husband and I received a warm welcome to this lovely pub when we called in for lunch today. We were seated in what appeared to be a newly refurbished section of the restaurant. A delightful waitress took our order which consisted of asparagus and wild mushroom soup with warm bread and creamy garlic mushrooms on ciabatta. Our main courses... More
