A quality fish restaurant serving a variety of seafood dishes is something to celebrate in the town most known for straightforward fish and chips. Of our party of four, two chose the haddock and chips, one the Dover sole and I chose the turbot, which was beautifully cooked and presented with an imaginative use of vegetables. The waitress was efficient,... More

We visited 16/01 for my birthday, admittedly we left booking until that afternoon but after offering a time of 20:30 the lady on the phone said how about 19:15, we agreed as we have eaten here before at night and also lunchtime, the place was absolutely full, all the staff were rushing around and it was some 30 mins before... We visited with friends And ordered a variety of dishes However the common theme was that the food was warm at best and decidedly cool by the time you finished the meal We had a risotto starter(cool) a salmon and soup (hot and a good choice but filling) The mains were a seafood platter and steaks all of which were... Wasn't sure what to expect. But was very pleasantly surprised. Had a very warm welcome, I thought it maybe your usual fish and chips. But it had a very varied menu and a good wine list. I had scallops to start in a tempura batter they melted in my mouth. Followed by grilled Red fish The dessert menu looked fabulous... More

Took advantage of a travel zoo offer, though turned out not to be as good value as expected. However the food was very good and the staff very friendly.Could have done with a few more choices of sweets but overall very good quality food and presented very well.

Just what we would expect from a good establishment. Great service medium size menu that is clearly priced and easy to read. Food was excellent and the walk along the coast afterwards made it a real winner.

This was the first time we had visitied the Captain's Table. We were impressed with the clean, modern decor (toilets on the ground floor for the information of physically challenged visitors). The menu was not huge, but was varied and not massively expensive. It had several fish items, including fish and chips, as you would expect at the seaside, but... More

It had been some time since we had eaten at the Captain's Table, but our attention was caught by a TravelZoo offer, and this provided the catalyst. Perhaps we had not visited on a winter evening previously, but we were immediately impressed by the atmosphere, helped by some well thought-out lighting. I chose the King Scallops for my starter, which... More

Four of us visited for lunch. Modern restaurant on the sea front so good location with parking on side street. Friendly and efficient staff. Now I must say two of our group enjoyed the lunch and two did not including myself. Myself and my partner had haddock and chips from main menu which arrived in a generous portion but the... More
