One of the best gastropubs in the area

We went to the Spread Eagle this weekend for the first time having sampled many of the gastropubs in the Forest of Bowland/Clitheroe area. The Spread Eagle has a lovely location on the river Ribble with the ruins of Sawley Abbey just down the road and great walks round about. The pub itself is... read more

Nothing created that was different than their usual menu but the layout was excellent. Had a great table all evening from when we arrived. Had a bottle of the Merlot which was excellent. My partner had the twice cooked cheese soufflé and fish and chips - which was huge in portion size but very fresh and well cooked. I had... More

Booked in for Christmas day lunch but for £75 per head the food and service wasn't very good at all. The goats cheese starter was tasty but tepid. Once we were seated, it took a little while for our order to be taken, but it was fairly busy. Our starter of a smoked salmon blini was nice but again took a while... More
