A delicious and relaxed Sunday lunch with friends

Just returned from a fun Sunday lunch with friends at the Spread Eagle. The food was delicious and the atmosphere very relaxed. An interesting menu; I had chorizo and prawns followed by fish pie, other friends had muscles, goats cheese and a lentil tageen. Universal approval. The only niggle was... read more

This is a lovely restaurant and became very appealing for regular visits because of its value three course lunch menu. It has now been removed and there is only the a la carte menu. This is obviously much more expensive. The food is great but won't be going back so regularly now as its too expensive.

My husband and I have recently drawn up a list of pubs/ restaurants we would like to visit in the area and the Spread Eagle was number 2 on our list (in no particular order as they say on X Factor!) We arrived slightly before service time but we were warmly greeted and shown to our table with our drinks.... More

Lovely food. Got there unannounced mid afternoon with 7 others in tow. Menu was high teas and limited meals; the high teas looked nice but we opted for various starters and mains. I had a pea and mint soup, quite rich but lovely. Followed by Cumberland sausage with mash and probably the best onion gravy 'in the world' (must have... More

Following the Ribble Way on a cold and wetish day we came across the Spread Eagle. A lovely situation overlooking the river and a welcome rest. We entered to find a perfectly kept and very well decorated and comfortably upholstered pub. Worried that our dirty boots and scruffy look would not be welcome we approach the Bar to find we... Earlier this year I was travelling up with my wife and two friends from the Wirral to stay at the Inn at Whitewell and decided to stop on the way at the Spread Eagle for lunch. This was a Monday and the Spread Eagle was surprisingly busy obviiously with locals who use it on a regular basis. It had also... More

4 of us had lunch on a very busy saturday. We had excellent food and service. We all had different items from the menu and all of us rated the food as excellent. I had one suggestion to the chef, that the very good plate of assorted fish should have been accompanied by toast and not bread. That was only... More

Excellent meal. Excellent service. Food was piping hot and came on hot plates. Could not fault either of the starters, goats cheese tart my wife had or the king prawn, chorizo and potato i had. The salmon and fresh vegetables my wife had as main was very tasty and was soon all gone. The gammon egg and pineapple i had... More

Always difficult to review an experience when we were a guest of others. but in the light of such glowing reviews a little objective reviewing is required. We were really looking forward to this treat, but we all felt we had been let down by indifferent service, inaccurate food descriptions (my pie of the day was not Steak and Onion... More

Oh dear Alec D, I can assure you that the Spread Eagle has not flown away! I do apologise for your experience you had with us, the pie was minced steak and onion, I think there was some confusion there! as you can see form the trip advisor comments we thrive on giving good home cooked food along with great...
