We have been visiting this this hotel for many years and it still delivers a wonderful experience - it's not a Michelin posh food restaurant (God forbid), but a regular top notch English food offer, very restrained elegance.

Visited here for weekend lunch whilst taking a detour from the M6 and taking the lovel scenic drive of the trough of bowland. The pub is large, and clearly a lot has been spent on it to bring it up to a high modern standard, with over 20 rooms, a vintners, and a bar/restaurant area spreading across multiple interconnecting rooms.... Enjoyed a meal with small part of 8 here and the food was good. Have to say guys behind the bar a bit complacent I think - not too friendly and seem to know the place is good so your fortunate to eat here type feeling. But the location is good and the food lovely. The restaurant staff much friendlier.

Whilst on holiday in the area, my family and I went out of our way to have lunch here having read/heard so many positive reviews. We were not disappointed. Despite having two small children in tow, we enjoyed a very relaxing lunch. Both my husband and I chose dishes off the specials board - my husband had the grouse, I... More

A big thank you for your lovely review, so pleased you came to find us and had a good lunch. We are coming to the end of the grouse but it has been very popular and couldn't be more local. Thank you,. Regards Cb More

We had an excellent lunch there on holiday in August. Excellent service, great food, didn't break the bank. Stunning location too. Would love to go back and stay...

Following a 2 day trip of over indulgence on food and wine in the Lakes, we decided to extend our glutinous over indulgence by another few hours and crossed the Cumbria/Lancashire border on our way home via several vertical hill climbs, 5 cattle grids, countless wandering sheep and 7 pheasants, all of whom we miraculously avoided. Due to the modern... More

Pooped in for a snack after exploring the Trough of Bowland. Great character building but not sure about ordering food, realised after a while to order food at the Bar, OK Sandwiches! Very tasty open sandwiches served with a salad, very good pot of the Inns own coffee, all in all quite an eye opener, not cheap but value for... More

I recently celebrated my birthday here, again. It has been my request to do this for some time now as we find it to be consistently of a high standard. The food quality never lets us down and the staff have always been very courteous. It really does appear to be a family inn, from the customer point of view... More

A long-planned walking holiday in the North simply had to take in the Inn at Whitewell. I stayed in Clitheroe and drove myself up for a solo a la carte supper on a Friday night. Having booked ahead they had expected me and offered me a choice of seats so i didn't feel too out-of-place surrounded by accompanied diners. The... More

We booked a Sunday lunch for our anniversary. We were showed directly to our table. I had to go to the bar and charge our drinks to the table or I could have paid at the bar. My wife has a garlic allergy which generally limits her choice. I had a starter of pork loin terrine which was very tasty... More
