Been several times before and will return as the food is consistently great and a stunning location! Starters all perfect and mains to die for- however from our arrival it was apparent that the bar manager/ attendant was certainly not trained to "meet n greet" with a couldn't-care-less attitude to our experience. The subsequent visits to the bar to order food... Had a very pleasant lunch here. Great regular menu and lots of specials to choose from. Starter of potted crab with avocado purée was just delicious. The fish pie for me was just a little too cheesy (but that's personal preference) and so piping hot that I literally couldn't take a bite for a good 15 mins. By which time... More

Roaring fires, heather filled fells, complemented by the rolling Hodder river below, the Inn at Whitewell is simply beautiful. Located alongside the Trough of Bowland, yet within reach of Clitheroe and its castle you almost feel the need to wear tweed and get into the spirit of the countryside. I have visited the inn for over thirty years and seen... More

We eat in the bar as we had our dogs with us. Black pudding home made by the restaurant and served as a slice. Wonderful. 3 ways with pork was stunning especially the belly pork. Could not comment about puddings as I was too full. Excellent value for money and hearty portons too.

Thank you for your review, so kind. Black pudding is the business, lots of people are making scotch eggs with it now, a little weird but... Thank you Regards Cb More

Not cheap but a quality product. Lovely warm scone, cream, jam which is oversized. Café tier coffee is of good quality but ask for hot milk as otherwise you will be brought cold milk . Pleasant and interesting rooms with real fires and some good views.

Consistently excellent food, drink, service and atmosphere. Our 3 Chow Chow dogs are made so welcome, they have "become famous" at the Inn. There is nothing to dislike, in such a well oiled establishment, who knows what first class service is all about.

We visited the Inn at Whitewell as part of 'The Trip' - our own 5 part dining experience, 4 hours from our home town of London. We arrived at dinner, passing through a buzzy bar restaurant to the main restaurant at the back. It lacked the amount of atmosphere of the bar and was darker and quieter. We decided to... More

Lunch in the bar today was absolutely superb. Black pudding starter was the tastiest thing I have eaten for some time. The lamb that followed was superb. Service was excellent, atmosphere very relaxed and the setting is stunning. All washed down by an excellent pint of Timothy Taylor's. Our dogs loved the place as we'll. We will be back soon!

We visited the Inn at Whitewell for lunch for the first time recently, after having seen it featured on the TV program “The Trip” with Steve Coogan and Rob Bryden some time ago. It is situated really in quite a remote but stunning location overlooking a bend of the river Hodder near Clitheroe in Lancashire. The building is stunning both... More
