Description: Whittle-le-Woods has been placed firmly on every food lover's map since the opening of The Red Cat on Blackburn Road. With more countryside charm than you could shake a muddy Wellie at, The Red Cat is renowned for its peaceful location and classic modern British menu. With its whitewashed exterior, original stonework and exposed wooden beams, you'll feel right at home in this cosy venue. Head Chef Chris Rawlinson has worked hard to create a moreish seasonal menu, and favourite dishes at The Red Cat include the fresh mussels with garlic and chive cream; the saddle of venison with spinach, beetroot purée and rosemary potatoes; and the bread and butter pudding with clotted cream and apricots.

Visited this fine dining restaurant a couple of months back during the week. Was not aware it had changed name and was fine dining until we entered the premises. Beautiful place, warm and welcoming in the lounge area. I was a bit put out by the person who initially served our drinks on arrival. When we were seated I inquired... More

The Red Cat was an absolutely fantastic restaurant and we dined there on many special occasions over the years. It is in walking distance from my home which is great as no designated driver required. The food was modern British and was cooked and presented exceptionally well and although not the cheapest of places to eat it was one of... More

Good food and drink and cheaper than the previous owner. Great service and quality and popular place to go.

Recently (and regrettably) changed it's name from The Red Cat to The Fat Bull (a far from endearing name) - clearly not concerned with a history that goes back over 400 years! Not a good start in the eyes of the local community - but - how is the food? Well despite my misgivings with regard to their cavalier attitude... More

Had lunch here Sunday 9th Nov. Staff were young pretty and very attentive. Lots of them too. The beer was ok, I had a pint of Stella 4% preferring it to the regular stella. They also had San Migel and I think a smooth flow bitter which is generally a tasteless horror but as I didn't try this I can't... More

The Red Cat, with its fine dining experience, has now been transformed into the Fat Bull under new management. The Fat Bull's parent is of the same name in Ashton in Makerfield and has good reviews, so I will post under its new heading.

I had a wonderful lunch with colleagues. The restaurant and bar is well presented and there is an air of sophistication when you step through the doors. The service is impeccable. The waitress was knowledable in recommending the best dishes, whether it be a new dish or a favourite with other diners, eventually leaving the choice with us. The table... More

Nice menu, good wine list. Stylish decor with countryside views. Dessert beats the rather bland starter and main course. Service with a courteous smile all evening. Very nice but room for improvement.

The Red Cat is no more; the Rowlandson family have ceased catering there and have sold the establishment. However all is not lost as they have moved in their entirety to the Royal Oak, Blackburn Old Road, Riley Green so only a fairly short distance away
