Good sandwiches, but overpriced

My wife's niece and her boyfriend took us to the Little Brown Jug for lunch on a quiet Monday afternoon. Judging by some of the reviews on here, it's lucky it was quiet as we got good service. We had a lovely Sunday lunch for four. The service was very friendly, not too hurried but not too long to wait either. Overall a very good experience. The slow cooked shoulder of lamb was fabulous.

Visited for my sons birthday. Lovely venue, garden huts are worth the extra cost, good food at a reasonable price. Service was good too.

Excellent food and portion size, reasonably priced, good choice of wine and friendly, efficient service - couldn't fault it.

The little brown jug, in my experience has always had great service good food and a lovely country pub atmosphere. We were there for a birthday lunch yesterday, there was a huge blackboard advertising cocktails, i ordered one for the birthday girl, the barman proceeded to make the cocktail word for word from his dirdctions, the end product looked like... A group of 12 of us came from London for Sunday lunch. You could see the pub was busy but it seemed they had a lack of staff as trying to get someone's attention to order drinks wasn't easy and then when the waitress did come over, she seemed harassed and drinks then took ages to come to the table.... We ate here most weeks and the food was always excellent, however over the last 3 months the food has not been great and we have now had several bad experiences. I have to say the service and staff are all faultless and the building is beautiful. Great for a sandwich and glass of wine but we won't be eating... More

My wife and I have been several times. Always have had really nice food. Highlights this time were a smoked mackrel terrine, which was very tasty. The other was a Lamb tagine. The tagine was very spicy but very delicious. Service was friendly. They can be a little slow at times, mainly towards the end, fortunately we are never in... More

Pros Nicely decorated building with huge garden Good choice of drinks Cons Food was extremely over priced for what it was. The menu felt unnecessarily fussy without the skill of a chef to pull it off. Food was not all that tasty. Loos weren't clean

Went to the Little Brown Jug a few weeks ago. It was the first time my parents met my girlfriends parents. The venue, food and staff were fantastic. The Whiting and Hammond pubs are all great and I cannot wait to visit another one soon.
