Childhood memories

Forts Cafe is located along the cliff top approx 100 yards from the Margates Winter Gdns. I remember this cafe from my childhood and we are going back now some 35 years. And this is the first time i have visited since then. "Well shut the front door and call me Nancy" it is still the same, ok... read more

Having heard lots of good things about this place, I decided to take a friend there for a treat. My friend is unwell and needed cheering up. We arrived at 950 on a wet blustery morning, the door was unlocked and staff were setting up for a 10am opening When we entered a staff member told us they were not... More

Hi there I'm sorry you had a bad experience at Fort's yesterday. However, it's our policy to open only at our stated hours. On the particular morning you called we had a carpenter in doing work in the dining room and it wasn't ready for customers to it in, which is why we turned you away. I'm sorry if you... More

Had brekkie here this morning and my initial thoughts were, wow this place must be good with all the reviews and the nicely presented food. I can definitely say that they do a nice hot chocolate. I had the normal one for £2 that had a lovely chocolaty froff. They are very welcoming and friendly. I waited 20 minutes for... More

Hi there Many thanks for your review, and I'm glad you enjoyed the hot chocolate. I'm sorry you thought your breakfast wasn't good value. Unfortunately we don't have the buying power of a big chain like Harvester or Wetherspoons, and we use quality local butchers, bakers and fruit and vegetable suppliers, and even make our own vegetarian sausages on site,... This place looks very run down from the front but once inside it has a really lovely, welcoming atmosphere and one of the best breakfasts I've had. The kids really enjoyed their food and especially loved the milkshakes. Would highly recommend this cafe if visiting Margate.

We turned up & expected to have to sit outside as we had our puppy with us, but instead we were made to feel very welcome with him. I had the veggie brekkie - and it's seriously delicious. The Glamorgan sausage was especially good! Egg cooked to my perfection & I even loved the bubble & squeak!! Kids had mini... More

Wonderful feel about the place, Honest food. The style is definitely retro and no rush. We both had the Hot chorizo sandwich with Rosemary sea salted chips which is top notch and a pot of tea

Full english was very good and the ingredients are above the norm but coffee is foul! Almost undrinkable. Slightly overpriced for what it is. You either need to be seen in here or you dont!

Hi there... sorry you didn't like the coffee. You should've mentioned it at the time and we'd have been more than happy to do something about it. Thanks Stewart at Fort's More

Would recommend getting there early on weekends as there is often a queue. Have been here on two occasions- both times though our food took 30 minutes to come out- well worth the wait!

I came across forts cafe not so long ago and have never regretted it since! It's great place to go and have breakfast or lunch! I very much enjoy sitting in and doing work on my laptop with the use of the free wifi available! Great food, all local ingredients which is great to see, what a lovely pleasant place!

We enjoyed our Fort's breakfast so much, we came back again the next day AND ditched our inclusive hotel breakfast to do so! The service is smiley and helpful, not the quickest but that goes with the chilled atmosphere of the place. The menu has loads of choice for veggies and meaties alike. Everything we ate was cooked to perfection... More
