God quality food

We booked a table at the Boathouse, for a Easter Sunday evening meal. We were offered a drink at the bar or to be seated immediately (the choice was ours). We only observed very young staff during our 90 mins at this venue but they all were proficient especially for staff that did not appear to... read more

When we arrived for a family meal on Easter Sunday (12 of us) we were told that there was no record of our booking and that we must have made a mistake and booked with another Boathouse on the island. We felt terrible and phoned round all the other Boathouses to explain why we hadn't turned up, but none of... More

Looks wonderful and very elegant. That's where the experience ends. Lipstick marked glasses. No table service despite advertising as such. Sticky tables. A waitress who insists I ordered cheesy chips for dessert with the ice creams for everyone else rather than the pannacotta. The table adjacent then ordered pannacotta and received theirs before mine AFTER the mix up. Clanging dinner... More

We were recommended this gastro pub. It was thoroughly disappointing on many levels. The service was poor, we were given water glasses with lipstick on, and served by a mardy redhead who was not interested in giving any kind of sevice to us. Cutlery was thrown on the table. One waitress tried to be helpful and recommended a hake dish... More

We visited over the Easter weekend and were blessed with glorious sunshine, so had a stroll along the prom and found this lovely pub. Service was efficient and food fab. My husband had 1/2 lobster salad and I had 1/2 pint prawns with salad and we shared a bowl of their fat chips. The total bill with a large wine... More

Five of us called here for lunch on our way around the coast on Easter monday and had a very enjoyable experience, with the added bonus of sitting outside in the wonderful spring sunshine. The staff were very efficient and polite. The baguettes and Mussels were first class and reasonably priced and there was a good choice of beers. The... More

The Solent battleship grey and flecked with white horses. The mainland a dull grey drizzled distant fuzz. The boathouse inn a welcome retreat from an all too bracing collar up trudge. We had always had fine meals here with a well poured real ale. Fresh local fish always on special. We made the mistake of not booking, but found a... More

The Boat House is nicely laid out and decorated. Depending on where you sit there maybe some steps to negotiate, only a problem if like my mother you're not as steady on your pins as you once were. The specials board was very tempting with a good selection of seafood and puddings. I went for the whole plaice, others had... More

We booked ahead, making a special trip from Whitwell to get the best table for our friends from the mainland for a special occasion. We have been many times before so thought we were on to a safe bet. Very disappointed - easily our worst visit. Disinterested, rushed service. No welcome, no goodbye, no interest in us in between. Bar... More
