The cafe has one of the finest planetariums within, which is operated by a coin in a slot! The artwork features characters from Lewis Carroll's two books, 'Alice in Wonderland' and ''Through the Looking Glass'. The tables are mirrored, to reflect the stars, sun and earth. Through the cafe is the Don McGill museum, featuring hundreds of postcards, some of which were banned in the 1950's, for lewdness!! But, very tame by today's standards!! A fantastic, inexpensive eatery!

Interesting decor...

We stopped here for lunch - we had issues finding it at first as they've changed the name (but have forgotten the new one!!) The staff were very welcoming - we had two dogs with us and they allowed us to sit near the entrance as long as the mutts behaved! The food was lovely but unfortunately... read more

Used to be the Orrery and now transformed into Bottega, a sumptuously decorated room furnished in soft gold and black. We had afternoon tea with Champagne, open sandwiches with a twist on the usual fillings, so cream cheese included pink peppercorns, hummous included olives, egg mayonnaise with fresh herbs. Cakes looked very pretty and tasted lovely. Scones were delicious. Teas... More

Read about this in a guide book but difficult to find as it is now called Bottega! Celestial ceiling, chandeliers, gold and black furniture, menu case, lit candles and rose on tables. Herbal tea served in glass teapot and decor a feast for the eyes. Toilets down an almost vertical narrow spiral staircase but despite having a walking stick, was... More

An amazing stylish venue, now called Bottega... We stopped for mid-morning drinks, and couldn't stop messing around with the sun, stars and planets! The staff were really friendly and helpful, and it'll definitely be on our list of places to re-visit when we're next on the Island.

Found this place by chance on a rainy afternoon. Just looking for somewhere to have hot drinks and had walked past a couple of cafes as they didn't look up to much. Stopped at the Orrery because it had a saucy postcard museum, didn't particularly intend having anything to eat or drink there, certainly glad we did. We ordered the... More

The place is lovely, we had a really nice cream tea with fresh strawberry, the scones where freshly made and the clothed was really god! The surrounding is amazing! Alice in Wonderland-themed, with ceiling and walls all covered with the famous illustration from the book and weird mirrors. The tables too were mirrored. The place was lovely, and all the... More

Having ordered two cream teas, my girlfriend and I sat at one of the mirrored tables and enjoyed the fascinating wallpaper and "solar system". An unusual and interesting cafe, although our cream teas took a little longer than expected...wow, they were worth the wait. I'm an affecionado of cream teas and was amazed by them! We couldn't believe or eyes... More

We just wanted something light for lunch and this cafe seemed nice when we looked through the door. As there was only 1 other couple in the place, we thought we could be in and out within 45 mins. We were wrong. We ordered 2 gourmet haloumi burgers, a miso soup, one glass of wine and 1 bottle of beer.... More

I was there with my family, during my one-day trip to Ryde. The bar is well decorated with a lot of small globes around and a universe scenery on the ceiling. We had a cream tea and some juices. Freshly prepared and served. The price was reasonable.

Five of us just off the boat and desperate for coffee. This place looked interesting with all the globes and mirrors. I much prefer to frequent individual coffee houses, and drink from proper cups. We just had coffee, but the waiter was attentive and the coffee lovely & strong. The couple next to us were tucking into scones with fresh strawberries,... More
