Stopped here after a walk in the chilterns for some lunch, i wished i hadn't. It took ages to get served, the staff didn't seem to care that we'd been waiting quite some time. when our food arrived it could at best be described as distinctly average. The burger was cold and the kids food looked like it had be... More

Staff are very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food is of excellent quality and piping hot. The pub is very dog friendly, which is an added bonus. Well worth a visit!

Not a good visit. Food was cold, mash was lumpy and the poor barmaid was spread far too thin so I ended up waiting 15 minutes for a cup of tea and when I sent my cold food back, I was offered a free drink which never arrived. When my replacement food arrived I didn't get any cutlery for five... More

I dropped in here with a friend after we had spent the morning putting up a shed and were in need of food and drink. The lunch menu was good, I had a "posh" fish finger sandwich and he had a ham and cheese toastie....both came with chips and were excellent value. A good selection of local beers and good... More

This is a pub in transition and will need further visits to see where it ends up. Staff friendly, nice and clean good choice of food and drinks but the overall feel from the regulars was not welcoming!

My partner had to visit Tring unexpectedly with his work and as I had never been to this part of the country before he phoned me and asked me if I wanted to go with him as I had a day off work. I'd never even heard of "Tring"! So I finished my coffee, watched the end of Jeremy Kyle... More

I was 'peckish' and had passed The Black Horse many times, but had never ventured in! The weather was so spring like and sunny today, I didn't want the 'usual' Pinot wine and asked the bar man what Cider (dry) he could recommend, he recommended a great dry Cider (and offered a taster), I ordered the Prawns wrapped in pastry... Went for Sunday lunch... what a nice surprise! Great lunch, well served, on time ... AND outstanding Yorkshire puds... big and fluffy, full of flavour with a really tasty hunk of beef and great gravy! The ONLY place for Sunday lunch in Tring.

I popped in for lunch yesterday with my partner and my in-laws just to try it out. We were very impressed with the service and the portion sizes were very generous. We shall be going back. I recommended the chicken, ham and leek hot pot with mustard mash!
