The Duke's Head serves modern British cuisine in the heart of the quintessential Essex village. 'Village Pub & Dining' explains our concept perfectly. A warm, friendly, atmospheric pub, which happens to do excellent, locally sourced food! Along with friendly, helpful service, perfect pints and very good wine, this is somewhere that anyone would like to spend a few hours. Relaxing on our sunny patio under pretty parasols, with the children running in the garden or hiding in the quaint tree house or warming you feet in front of a roaring fire, with your dog by your side! Whatever the weather, a warm welcome is always guaranteed at The Duke's Head.

Good portion sizes and delicious food

In particular I liked the friendly service, but on first sighting of the menu prices I thought it was a bit expensive. £15.95 for a roast dinner. However, when the food arrived at the table, I was amazed by how good the portion size was and after having eaten my roast pork, I felt very satisfied... read more

What a find. I've driven past this pub numerous times on the way home but never called in. My husband and I had dinner here this week and it was fabulous. We both had the meatballs and they were spicy and plentiful. The wine was great and they had Timothy Taylor Landlord on, which made hubby happy. They let dogs... More

We arrived to a very warm and friendly welcome, quickly served and seated. The staffs knowledge of where all the restaurants produce came from was second to none. The food was Devine cooked perfectly, you could tell the chef (not your typical pub cook) really loved food and cared a great deal about the quality of food, As well as... More

My wife, my Mum and I had Easter Sunday lunch at the Duke's Head. There was no special premium that many places have, but I have to say the welcome was warm and efficient, the environment very nice, and the service very good. Most importantly for us as this was a busy day we weren't rushed at all, and no... More

Found by chance as it is out of the way but well worth seeking out. Stopped for lunch. Really good local ingredients cooked perfectly. No sign of anything whatsoever out of the freezer. Food is a tad on the expensive side compared to most pub grub but don't resent a penny of it, it is really excellent. My only minor... More

We went here for my friends birthday 2 couples looking forward to the quality meal we had previously eaten here.. They surpassed theirselves!!! Due to popular demand the Kofte meat balls in pasta and sauce have been re-introduced and having not tried them previously Kenny and I both ordered them as we were hungry.. We got a huge bowl with... Sunday was my first Mother's Day, and my fiancé and little girl decided to take me to the Dukes head. I can say it was the nicest meal I have had in a long time. The service we couldn't fault, all the mums got a glass of bubbles on arrival, which was a nice surprise. Overall experience was great would... More

We went here on a cold tuesday evening. As you walk in, its all you want in a country pub: warm, fire in the corner, lovely welcoming staff and carefully sourced and tasty food. I recommend the pork belly and the beetroot and goats cheese starter, absolutely YUM!

Had heard good reviews of this pub restaurant so finally decided to see for ourselves. For non-meat eaters there wasn't a great choice. However, two of us decided on beetroot and apple soup to start with. This was very bland and too sweet, like eating warm apple sauce. It was served with chunks of the local bakery's flavoured bread which... More
