The Duke's Head serves modern British cuisine in the heart of the quintessential Essex village. 'Village Pub & Dining' explains our concept perfectly. A warm, friendly, atmospheric pub, which happens to do excellent, locally sourced food! Along with friendly, helpful service, perfect pints and very good wine, this is somewhere that anyone would like to spend a few hours. Relaxing on our sunny patio under pretty parasols, with the children running in the garden or hiding in the quaint tree house or warming you feet in front of a roaring fire, with your dog by your side! Whatever the weather, a warm welcome is always guaranteed at The Duke's Head.

Another lovely lunch

We really like this pub for atmosphere and food. This visit there were a number of 'new' items on the menu, I chose the Dukes Coronation Kiev with sag aloo, sultana puree and onion bahji-the flavours really complemented one another- it was delicious! No room for pudding this time but selection... read more

Visited after reading the web site and seeing the menu so expected good food. Sadly this was not the case. Interior and gardens very nice , staff very friendly and service good. Food however total let down cray fish salad tastes of mayo only, scotch egg was ok, crispy duck salad with noodles actually very bland, tasted of nothing ,... More

We visited the Dukes Head last night expecting a really good meal after seeing the reviews, Unfortunately this wasn't the case. I had the sea bass which was okay but nothing to write home about and the portion was extremely small, £16.25. Total rip off. My husband had the special, chicken, mushroom and bacon pie. It came up in a... More

I visited here with my wife the other night and was a very good all round experience. The food was very good and huge portion sizes - perhaps a bit too big to be honest. The Scotch Egg was fantastic, although, call me common, I would have liked something to mop up the runny egg with. The steak was huge... More

In particular I liked the friendly service, but on first sighting of the menu prices I thought it was a bit expensive. £15.95 for a roast dinner. However, when the food arrived at the table, I was amazed by how good the portion size was and after having eaten my roast pork, I felt very satisfied. I didnt have a... More

What a find. I've driven past this pub numerous times on the way home but never called in. My husband and I had dinner here this week and it was fabulous. We both had the meatballs and they were spicy and plentiful. The wine was great and they had Timothy Taylor Landlord on, which made hubby happy. They let dogs... More

We arrived to a very warm and friendly welcome, quickly served and seated. The staffs knowledge of where all the restaurants produce came from was second to none. The food was Devine cooked perfectly, you could tell the chef (not your typical pub cook) really loved food and cared a great deal about the quality of food, As well as... More

My wife, my Mum and I had Easter Sunday lunch at the Duke's Head. There was no special premium that many places have, but I have to say the welcome was warm and efficient, the environment very nice, and the service very good. Most importantly for us as this was a busy day we weren't rushed at all, and no... More
