The Duke's Head serves modern British cuisine in the heart of the quintessential Essex village. 'Village Pub & Dining' explains our concept perfectly. A warm, friendly, atmospheric pub, which happens to do excellent, locally sourced food! Along with friendly, helpful service, perfect pints and very good wine, this is somewhere that anyone would like to spend a few hours. Relaxing on our sunny patio under pretty parasols, with the children running in the garden or hiding in the quaint tree house or warming you feet in front of a roaring fire, with your dog by your side! Whatever the weather, a warm welcome is always guaranteed at The Duke's Head.

Not as good as I'd heard

I recently went to the Duke’s Head for a lunch on a Monday afternoon. We have driven by this pub many times but never stopped, and I was glad that we did. The decor inside the pub is lovely, lots of little sections, modern, homely and stylish. The staff made us feel welcome on our arrival. The menu consisted on... More

Wonderfully updated premises, with a Beatles Homage Gents (piped music), various seating areas to suit couples, families and locals and all tastefully decorated. Interesting menus (food and wine) and reasonable prices. Service attentive and food on the button; presentation, taste and combinations. Couldn't fault the place. We shall certainly return, but suggest it's worth booking at weekends.

Three of us visited The Duke's Head for Sunday lunch and the food was exceptional. I cannot recommend the Mussels Arribiatta more highly, it was fantastic with two slabs of artisan bread to mop up the soup-like sauce too. The scallop dish starter was also greatly enjoyed by my Mum and fiancée. Two roast lamb and a roast beef followed,... More

We've just come back from having lunch here today having never been there before. The pub looks stylish and so we had high hopes, which were unfortunately mis-founded. My hubby ordered fish and chips and I ordered Belly Pork with "bacon/caramelised onion roly poly, honey glazed parsnips and chorizo jus" When our food came it looked very nice although the... More

I can't recommend this pub highly enough. We have eaten here several times and the food is delicious. We have been with our children who are always made welcome. The front of house staff are lovely and attentive without being over the top. Can't wait to return!

Found this pub by chance and certainly pleased that we did. The food was freshly cooked and really well presented and extremely delicious. There was an open fire where we sat and also soft sofas where you can sit and have a drink before the meal. The staff were very friendly and courteous and it is definitely a recommended venue.... The food here is above average, with lots of locally sourced ingredients which were cooked and presented very well. The wine list extensive with an excellent choice of wines from around the globe, The service was a little slow and inattentive, but if you want to enjoy the food and surroundings you wont find this a problem, but be prepared... We have been there on Saturday lunch time with family...lovely pub in the country side serving outstanding food at reasonable price. Lovely atmosphere, good menu's choice with decent wine list ...maybe just lagers choice and speeding up service a little would be opportunities of improvement but overall Duke was excellent and I'm looking fwd to coming back soon

We called here on way to airport before Christmas, and glad we did. The roast dinners were top class. Great selection of different vegetables, fanastic crisp roast potatoes and to die for beef. The kids had desserts, as I the portions were large, and they were also super.
