This pub does a fantastic trade especially as it is well off the beaten track. It must be because: The landlady is warm and friendly and she has trained the staff to be the same. All young, conscientious, knowledgeable and friendly. The pub has a small range of beers which are in main interesting and are changed regularly. This pub... More

I have been coming to the Candlesticks for as long as i can remember, my first memory is being collected from nursery and riding past infront of an uncomfortable saddle. the current owners are doing a great job of bringing it into the 21stC. In those early days a pub was somewhere you bought a drink...no Food. now they have... More

Visited this pub for lunch with friends. The weather was good so we were able to eat outside. Set down a quiet country lane it was very quiet and peaceful. The food was very enjoyable and tasty and home made. Although not too busy, the service was very good and nothing seemed to be too much trouble.Very happy to recommend

Decent pub food, appeared home made and cooked to a high standard. First visit here and we'll certainly go back. Not yet found a better country pub in the area. Nice for sitting outside.

Very friendly service & decent quality food make this a good place to eat. After we went on a local walk for a couple of hours (much recommended) we sat outside so had to choose from the 'Outdoors' menu, which was a little limited, but we both found the food to be good. There were plenty of dogs around, so... More

I've taken to this place like a duck to water. The food is always good, the service warm and friendly, the beers / ales get the thumbs up from my other half and there are always plenty of smiley faces and waggley tails. In fact, you'll often find a pony outside too. Sunday lunch is the best with generous portions... More

Very average, needs a revamp decor wise, average food, doesn't deserve to be so high up on places to eat in and around Hertford. We were recommended the house burger because of it's apparent popularity but it was quite bland and overcooked, nothing special at all. Makes me doubt the authenticity of the previous reviews. We only visited based on... More

Interesting menu, something for everyone. Reasonably priced for Hertfordshire. Can be extremely busy so there is a need to book. Pleasantly decorated. Service is good but not intrusive. Good range of beers and wines. The soup I had last night was amazingly tasty and so was the salad I had to follow. Friends had the mango mouse to follow and... More

We have been to the Candlesticks pub on many occasions and have found it to be consistently good and that is why we continue to patronise the pub. We have found the service friendly and good. Their cask conditioned beer is always excellently kept. The only time service has been slow is, for example, on a very busy Sunday lunchtime... More

Book a table to avoid being disappointed as The Candlestick does get busy. Today the 3 of us had a roast (4 on offer), the vegetarian nut roast ( which was one of the most delicious) and a burger and chips. The food was fresh, homemade, hot and well presented. The desserts were also delicious. One of our favourite places... More
