Superb lunch

We were in the area and searched on the phone for somewhere to eat and this came up as the nearest. What a great pub. The service was friendly and my husband was given tasters of the beers before deciding on the one he wanted. We had homemade chicken, ham and leak soup, delicious and it came with... read more

Good country pub far from the madding crowd. Friendly feel, comfortable dining but a limited menu though the food was reasonable.

The Candlesticks is in the middle of no-where, but is well worth the trip, The food is traditional pub fare, but everything is freshly prepared. The service is very good. The score would have been four stars, but the risotto had been cooked with cream which made it heavy and too rich, while my burger was served without the bacon... More

We've been going to the Candlestick for over a year and always had the most amazing food until recently. A month ago we went for lunch and found the usually well seasoned food, tasteless, and the main course portion shrunk by at least one third. Thinking maybe it's just an off day we gave it another go and it was... More

Great food - good wine and selection - good value for money. I will be going back. Short drive from Herts Uni, so a nice option if you want to take your student family member out.

my husband took myself and my son for Sunday lunch and it was delicious! The Sunday roast was very nice and all looked home cooked (no microwaved or aunt Bessie's) Staff were all very tentative and overall the lunch was lovely! Will be returning in summer as the garden looks great for kids and dogs

This restaurant is very doggie friendly, we phoned up last minute and got a lovely table, the food was excellent as was the staff and service. Asked for a recommendation and it didn't disappoint, the burger was best I've had. We pass by Hatfield once every couple of months and this will be a definite place to eat on our... More

Met friends here for lunch on New Years Day. The pub was busy but they squeezed us in. The food was great (including the sausages they cooked for our spaniel!) and the service welcoming and friendly. Will definitely be back.

We took our son out from university for his birthday. Two gammon and one burger meal, all really lovely and the home made chunky chips were really lovely. The staff and service was great, thanks for a lovely experience
