Very good find in the middle of nowhere...

We searched the web for a dog friendly place to eat near Hatfield and chose The Candlestick as one of few available in the area... I went there with my wife, two friends and our Welsh Terrier and we were very pleased with the experience. The pub is literally in the middle of nowhere but that's... read more

Amazing place in the summer but tricky to get to. Going down a long narrow country lane where it's only fit for one car at a time was a nightmare but me and my friend made it in a classic mini car. He had the burger where as I went for the specials on the chalkboard. I had a shark... More

Despite not having booked and it being a busy Saturday evening we were found a table, food is excellent, not the first time we have eaten here and not the last.

Good country pub far from the madding crowd. Friendly feel, comfortable dining but a limited menu though the food was reasonable.

We were in the area and searched on the phone for somewhere to eat and this came up as the nearest. What a great pub. The service was friendly and my husband was given tasters of the beers before deciding on the one he wanted. We had homemade chicken, ham and leak soup, delicious and it came with either white... The Candlesticks is in the middle of no-where, but is well worth the trip, The food is traditional pub fare, but everything is freshly prepared. The service is very good. The score would have been four stars, but the risotto had been cooked with cream which made it heavy and too rich, while my burger was served without the bacon... More

We've been going to the Candlestick for over a year and always had the most amazing food until recently. A month ago we went for lunch and found the usually well seasoned food, tasteless, and the main course portion shrunk by at least one third. Thinking maybe it's just an off day we gave it another go and it was... More

Great food - good wine and selection - good value for money. I will be going back. Short drive from Herts Uni, so a nice option if you want to take your student family member out.
