Visited the No.1 for an Anniversary dinner on a Thursday night, with four adults and one "tween". It's a nice restaurant, looks like a coffee/wine bar at the front but when you go up the steps there is a spacious restaurant with a bar at the back. It has a pleasant atmosphere and is well decorated. The menu choices and... More

Dropped in for a cup of coffee on a hot Thursday afternoon, place was quiet with just two other customers. Service was polite and quick.

We booked for Friday evening and we're really surprised when we turned up to find there was only one other couple in the restaurant. There was no one in sight to greet us or show us to our table for a few minutes. The waitress who did appear eventually, seemed to be struggling to cope on her own. There were... More

Saw this and thought try. The place has gone a refit I think as the back room is well kitted out with nice sofas. Food was excellent, ribs perfectly cook, the meat fell off the bone. Nice touch with a finger bowl. The pie ( mum had) looked excellent too. Lovely little place but do be prepared to wait as... More

Went for lunch after reading the reviews, not much of a choice so just had a sandwich which was nice enough but nothing spectacular! Nice friendly girl who served us.

Never had a disappointing visit. Great value, friendly service and brilliant homemade grub! Hard to find faults really, can be slightly slow at times but that's to be expected in a busy town cafe. Love it.

Decent menu, good choice of main dishes, specials are well worth the extra pound or two. Very pleasant place to eat.

Coffee came with a pretty flower traced in it....first rate ! My daughters and wife's drinks were equally well presented. Old black and white building with lots of quotes over the walls and nice friendly decor.

We've recently moved to this area and have found the food at No.1 to be fantastic. Homemade steak and ale pie is to die for as are the burgers and Sunday lunch is really home cooked, fresh and excellent value @ 8.95. The beef is cooked properly (ie. no red meat which is lovely, I cannot stand it when the... More

I visited the Cafe' to kill some time , coffee up , and read the paper. The staff were friendly , the ambience was good , the coffee was tolerable , not the best filter effort , as I have mine black ,usually . I found the experience, O.K. " 'Nuff Said !!!"
