Great location, awful food

We dropped into this pub on Friday 27 February for lunch. It is in a beautiful setting, and with 2 roaring fires inside, all looked promising. And then our food arrived, it was bland and tasteless. My husband described his burger as worse than one from a freezer shop and inedible. The chicken and... read more

This was one of our favourite pubs on our normal late winter break in the New forest. What a letdown !! Previously we have always enjoyed the scenery , atmosphere and varied good valued menu including many specials. I suppose we should have had a clue when we entered as the pub was virtually empty on arrival . The menu... More

How I wish that I had read the reviews on here before visiting. We visited for lunch today, it was not that busy, so no problem with the wait. The barman was pleasant and friendly, and took our food order quickly and efficiently. The food was awful, my husband had a burger and it was so hard that it was... More

Visited today, apparently the pub has been closed for refurbishment - no sign of anything having been done. The pub was virtually empty and no sign of staff, had to wait ages for someone to appear. The food (when it finally arrived) was sadly not of a good standard at all. The curry was like something that had come out... More

The service today was the worst that we can recall from many years of pub and restaurant visits. The refurbishments were incomplete. There were insufficient front of house staff. The front of house staff were inexperienced. There was a long wait to order drinks. Our mains were delivered before the starters. The starters were good when they arrived. The mains... More

My last review of this pub grub establishment was not good. We stopped in for lunch and were most impressed. Service was excellent and friendly. Food very good for type of pub and okay price. Wine was well above what would be expected.

My husband and l were out on a long awaited day together. We came across this watering hole and decided to pop in for a light bite. The pub was very busy and thought that was a good sign!!!. We had to wait at least ten minutes before getting served a drink..seemed no one had any idea about customer service.... More

We had been visiting some friends in the area and decided to stop on the way back for some food and a drink. It was nice to go into a pub with people who actually care about their customers. My wife and I sat on a table by the fire place to eat, and we thoroughly enjoyed the food, my... More

We visited the pub last Saturday lunchtime and it soon became apparent that the new owner had inherited a host of problems which I'm sure in time will be resolved. We ordered the baguettes which then came with the wrong choice of bread we asked for it to be changed only to be fobbed off with that they had run... More

Had a lovely relaxed lunch here. The food was very good. Staff were absolutely lovely. They had two roaring fires which were a delight to sit next too, in such cold weather. Will definately be going back.
