Even after readings the reviews, I tried this pub/ restaurant for myself. A lovely setting and nice place, friendly staff and inviting special boards, menu was blanked out a bit, and a change is taking place, after a chat to the new manager. I ordered Venison casserole which duly arrived and was a very good dish, the local ale was... More

We went for Sunday lunch at the Sir Walter Tyrell, the inside of the building is finished to a high standard and the beers were good, staff were polite and pleasant. The food however, was of a very, very poor standard. My mothered ordered spinach and brie parcels - the pastry was undercooked and like leather and there was no... More

We visited for a Saturday lunch time snack. We didn't want anything special, just a good pub lunch.. We definitely didn't get it. They seemed a bit overwhelmed with the number of people in the pub so there was a long wait once we'd ordered but that wasn't a real problem as we weren't in any hurry. My partner ordered... More

Hi, I have written two e mails to the Sir Walter Tyrrell asking for a copy of the menu as i cant download one from the internet and also answer a question about the food available on the menu (specific dietary requirement). Not heard anything back, does anyone have a valid e mail address? Not actually been here yet, so... More

I was apprehensive to meet an old mate here for a 'catch-up' dinner after some of the reviews I have read - I called up, booked a table by the fire for 4 of us. We got there a 18:30, we walked in and were welcomed by the Chef - not many people about - we had a pleasant chat... More

We were a party of eight and reserved a table Saturday lunchtime. The food was very good served piping hot, a mistake was rectified without fuss. The dog was also welcome. The location in the middle of the forest was stunning especially with the autumn colours.

Just visited the sir Walter Tyrell in the new forest and had a lovely pub lunch. After walking the dogs in the new forest we stumbled across this forest favourite. Being dog friendly we took ours in with us and within no time they were rewarded with a biscuit from the friendly bar staff. Being a large pub there was... More

We really rate the Sir Walter Tyrrell, I've eaten there probably 10 times or more, both as a hiker and with my family and friends. The food is pretty good, there's enough of it and it's of good quality. Above average as pub food goes. There's a good menu to chose from too. The staff are always friendly and usually... More

Visited this pub today, and was very disappointed. I get that its a "dog friendly" pub, but the stench of dog hits you as you walk in which is very off putting. Just after being seated a couple were seated next to us with what i would class as a 'dangerous' dog which made me scared sick for my two... More

Attended for birthday lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the range of beers. The staff were excellent and the menu varied. The food was well prepared and there was a children's menu. There was also outdoor seats and children's play area. Defintely one to revisit
