Potential but not great

The pub is in a brilliant location just off the m271 and has lots of walks in the area to suit all capabilities. Also has good parking. Several of our party ordered Sunday roasts which were a little disappointing for the price. The veg was undercooked and the whole meal was tepid-ate it as I was... read more

Sadly we have been customers for the last few years and have enjoyed every visit even had a loyalty card. The new owners are a disgrace, I heard the landlady being rude to another customer, abrupt with me, and the way she spoke to a staff member was terrible. When my friend ordered some chips, the landlord asked why she... More

this is a really traditional pub set in the heart of the new forest. good menu with plenty of choice for kids and vegetarians. large garden with large kids play area and climbing frame. decent range of traditional real ale from local breweries, including the excellent flack manor.

This pub is in a beautiful location being off the beaten track, overlooking a forest glade where there were a number of wild ponies grazing while my wife and I were there for lunch. There were only a handful of customers so we didn't expect to have to wait too long for our meals to be served but ours came... More

Thank you for your comments, unfortunately due to two chefs not turning up to work I had to go into the kitchen. The member who took your orders never informed us in the kitchen that it should be delivered at one time. Had we have been informed we would have done so. I shall be looking into the 2 hour... More

What a shame, We have been visiting the pub regularly over several years and on occasion meet friends there for a meal. Previously the food has been OK - not cordon bleu but reasonable fare. Latest visit rather disappointing as the food is no great shakes and has declined generally since previous visits. Also took three tries to get a... More

Sorry to hear you were disappointed with your last visit. I have taken your comments on board and look into them individually, hopefully you will return as I do try to pride myself on the beers. We have had a problem in the cellar to the temperature which hopefully has now been cleared. More

I had lunch at this pub today, part of a group eating after a lengthy committee meeting. The menu offered a chicken Caesar salad: three of us ordered it. I have always understood a Caesar salad to be made from shredded romaine lettuce, with and croutons and shaved parmesan cheese. Sometimes anchovy slices and quartered hard-boiled egg are included. The... More

On the 5th July 2015 my Sister and I and our husbands were recommended to come here for our 46th double Wedding Anniversary. It was our first visit and we arrived just in time for opening. We chose the carvery, being a Sunday and it arrived very soon, very hot and was absolutely delicious. The staff were so friendly, especially... More

We had an OK lunch here last year so returned for a cheap evening meal during our stay this year and unfortunately I can only give it a poor rating this time. We really felt for the landlady(?) who was on her own behind the bar. She was lovely and very welcoming but because she was on her own the... More

We dropped by for the first time in a few years, it was the first time that we've ever seen the place empty, admittedly it was a week day late lunch, but it is summer time with beautiful weather with lots of people out and about. We choose to open a tab but due to this we weren't allowed to... More
