We went for Valentines dinner, how disappointing!

The only evidence of anything romantic was a red candle on the table ... No music, no roses, nothing to suggest the day . Tardy service, expected more but lovely food... Feel let down!

We visited with two friends for lunch on a Friday. A £23 menu is offered but we were attracted by several dishes on the a-la-carte listing. At the recommendation of a fellow diner, I began with Faggot, kidneys and wild mushrooms. This was a fine dish, served in a tasty jus. The kidneys were very tender, the faggot served slightly... Really liked the location, lovely comfortable rooms and great food in the restaurant. Handy for New Forest and its sights.

For a birthday treat on a Tuesday we thought we would spend out £23.50 on a 3 course lunch at what we have always thought our best local restaurant but I was disappointed. Positives first. The bread was fantastic and the lime parfait super too. The main course of lime chicken with crispy bits was "tired". Vegetables were not fresh... More

Having read the reviews in The Good Food Guide and on T.A. and being aware of the owner/chef's illustrious culinary history we were more than happy to drive from South Somerset to experience an excellent lunch. Warmly welcomed by Jayne, the co-owner,who is front of house we enjoyed a pre lunch drink with nibbles whilst we perused the blackboards to... More

Judging by other reviews, people either love or hate this place. Why should anyone hate it? It isn't trendy, that's true; the décor is cluttered; you don't get tablecloths, the chalkboard menu looks fairly standard; the prices are higher than what you'd find in a bistro pub. But what you do get is a fine example of an English country... More

50 of us pitched up in our Bentleys and had a really excellent lunch. Loos are a bit limited but staff were brilliant. We'll be back!

Warm welcome, great service.perfect setting located close to A338 but down a country lane so peaceful rural setting. Nice room overlooking the garden. Comfortable bed for a great nights sleep. Excellent breakfast with fantastic brown bread toast. A perfect small rural hotel full of character & charm with such friendly service from your arrival to your departure.
