A pleasant but very slow lunch!

Had lunch there...couple of glasses of wine and we each had a smoked haddock dish. The latter was tasty and pretty good value at about £6. Wine OK. But the whole process was very slow, and rather disjointed. That did not matter to us, and the staff were pleasant enough. It feels a bit tough to... read more

My wife, her mother and I enjoyed an excellent midday meal here. When ordering at the bar, the staff were very helpful and accommodating. We were warned there was a 40 minute wait, but that's all it was, and the flavours made the wait worthwhile. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and we enjoyed the view of the bridge to... More

Having agreed with 6 others to attend a curry and pint night last Wednesday (March 25th), I was a little disappointed to find myself as the only one without a curry, (this also included the friend who had arrived 40 minutes late ,whose order was served with the rest of the party). After the waiter asked what my order had... More

We met with friends last evening at this wonderful little pub right on the waterfront. Parking is definitely at a premium (we had to park some distance away) The atmosphere was what you would expect in a traditional English pub. Roaring open fires and a warm and friendly atmosphere prevailed. The staff were friendly and helpful and the menu interesting.... More

Perhaps because we went early lunchtime bang on 12 noon we had faster service than many who have complained. Main points - huge portion of cod, perfectly cooked, loads of chips, choice of garden peas or mushy peas, undoubtedly home-made tartar sauce; tasty soup of the day; very good black pudding hash. Only reason I haven't given it five stars... More

Have visited this pub on a few occasions , service is slow. Food in the past has been average. I will never set foot inside this so called resturant/ pub. Order a starter just for a little snack as there was no light lunch menu. Only to be asked after waiting 45 minutes would you like a burger bun with... More

We've used the Royal Oak on several occasions in the past year for lunchtime business meetings. The relaxed atmosphere and fabulous views never fail to break the ice with a new client ! Service is efficient and unobtrusive and the food is excellent.

I have been a local there many years ago when I was living in the UK for 3 years. Last year friends of mine went to the Uk and I urged them to go there. They have confirmed in detail that it has not changed . Still great food, especially Sunday lunch. Carving with lots of veggies, gravy an Yorkshire... More
