Have eaten here several times recently. The service in the restaurant is always very good, attentive and well mannered staff. Last time we had a baby and a 6 year old with us, we were given a quiet out of the way table. I find the food is consistently good quality and would recommend the spit chicken and salt/pepper squid... More

Trip advisor is a pain as you can choose average or then leap to very good.. Truth is I cant call it either as the food was very good but the service is poor so affects the whole experience.. The good news is I had a really lovely lemon chicken and chips meal. It was beautifully cooked and the flavours... More

We organised a surprise 40th birthday dinner for my sister at The Oatsheaf and I honestly could not fault anything by Jason and his team. The food was great, our table was perfect, the service was top class and they honestly could not do enough for us. I dont normally take the time to write reviews but feel these guys... More

Our family went here for a surprise meal for my nan's Birthday and the service was absolutely excellent. The staff were so friendly, the food came quickly and it tasted wonderful - especially the sticky sharing platter which I had. Thank you so much to Jason and to the rest of the staff there for a lovely night!

Went with my family for a snack and drinks on Sunday late afternoon. Service was a little slow- released why when we went outside. There was a tall chap (beard and heavily tattooed) who was clearly staff. He was having drinks and food with another staff member and with a female friend. I have no problem with that (even when... I know the Oatsheaf from old and it has undergone many transformations over the years. Now it's a very busy and popular town centre pub with a good menu offering what looks like better than average fare. Unfortunately, looks are deceiving. The food I had was overcooked (quite difficult to get a burger that tough and tasteless), poorly seasoned and... More

My partner and I visited the Oatsheaf for lunch. The food was average and the service was VERY slow. We found the staff lazy and untrained. The large back garden and patio was dirty, empty glasses everywhere and cigarette butts scattered all over the ground. Disgusting & very disappointing. Was a dump! Would not revisit.

food is in a separate section away from the pubby bit which is nice as that gets loud. food was very good, quite expensive though considering the portion size, ordered salmon, which was delicious, but we both left hungry! eton mess pudding a must.

A good town centre venue for a meal with friends and a nice change from the standard restaurants. Liked the fresh decor of the restaurant area. Our group enjoyed starters of Stilton mushrooms on toast, fried squid, or scallops. Mains included a tasty sea bass with new potatoes, steaks, and also available dishes such as venison and pigeon. My dessert... More

I booked a table for 6 people for the evening of Bank Holiday Monday. During my phone booking I advised them that we are all vegetarians and as there were only a limited number of veggie options and we wanted to ensure they had enough available.. I was told "no problem" at the time of my booking. However when we... More
