Great food belies the exterior!

We booked for a family Sunday lunch based on reviews. Although the pub doesn't look much from the outside the service and food quality were excellent. There were two boys aged 9 an 10 with us and the children's menu was fine, generous portions and plenty of choice. Most of us went for the Sunday... read more

We found this place on the way back from a family day trip to Weymouth and having gone into several other country pubs on route (all told us they we're either fully booked or no food was being served that night) I was dubious if we would get in, not to mention very hungry! Thankfully we got a table -... More

We eat at this pub regularly and the food is always of a good standard. They have recently started doing a Wednesday night Steak Night where you get a choice of beautiful steak dinners / a pudding and a half carafe of wine all for £12.95 (if two people in your party are choosing steak). The steaks are consistently good... More

Went in for a lunch service on a Sunday afternoon and wasn't disappointed. The service was warm, the ambience inside this traditional English pub was quaint and the food was wholesome. They had ran out of a dish we had ordered, but then amended it to our liking. On the whole a very good experience and well worth a visit... More

I really don't want to seem like 3 stars is bad. It's not. It is average and based on the food we had served that is all I could give. I'm not comparing to a fine dining restaurant- just to other similar pubs who serve food. We came here because of the good reviews. Table of four. All had starters... More

My husband and I stopped off for an impromptu Sunday Lunch & even though they were very busy they found a table for us. the staff were all friendly and very welcoming. Lunch was just perfect, freshly cooked, plenty of fresh vegetables and a generous helping. Great value for money too. Most definitely worth a visit. Thank you.

We dined here family of four and two children. Food was lovely and owner very welcoming. Kids food was great and our three year old really enjoyed his home made burger! Will definitely be back when we are in the area.

Used trip advisor to find somewhere to eat on new years day for lunch . The Dog and Crook got good reviews so phoned to make reservation. So pleased we dined there , food was fantastic and such a great choice, observe red other meals coming from the kitchen and it made the choice even harder Service was great and... More

Service was great throughout. We took ages to decide what to have because, even though it was a limited xmas menu, everything sounded good! We all had three courses (for under £18 each) and there were no complaints whatsoever. Sprout lovers might disagree on this, as there weren't any! Some of us had been here before, but stopped going because... More

We went to the Dog and Crook as a large family party and everybody loved it. Good good, good beer and cider and really friendly staff. Coped well with the large group and pub was really busy too.
