Came here with my family and partner as part of a long weekend after a day at Thruxton racing circuit. Absolutely loved it! Had a very friendly waiter who we had a lovely conversation with after our meal. Outstanding food, we all felt very impressed, very sad we don't have one here in Chelmsford!

Barmaid kept forgetting orders, got drinks wrong numourous times and food took ages! I needed to eat at a certain time and I couldn't, even when we asked how long it would be. Also, vegetarian menu is pretty much non existent. Apart from that, lovely pub.

Lunch with a friend on a Friday. Restaurant was not overly busy at lunchtime, service was good, food was good, I had fish and chips and my friend had a salad, reasonable variety on menu. I'd say reasonable value, sat and drank coffee after the meal and were made to feel welcome. It was almost four O clock before we... More

I like the look of the pub inside, very cosy. That was my first time visiting poplar farm and i was very pleased with the food and service by a guy with a ponytail, just cant remember his name. I had slow roast pork belly with black pudding, cabbage and sweet potato i think and it was yummy. Partner had... More

Called in here recently for lunch on a Sunday. The Hunters chicken was somewhat small when served, almost looked like a younger chicken on the plate which was hidden by the cheese & bacon topping. The other main meals were Ok & the fish & chips looked very big & value for money. Dessert including the crumble was very good... More

We decided to use our new Gourmet Diners card on Saturday 2nd August. We booked the table and as we hadn't been to this pub for a few years wasn't sure what to expect. However, it was really enjoyable. Our waitress came to take our drinks order within a few minutes and then our food order. I had the belly... More

This used to be one of my "standby" eating pubs, as it had a reasonably wide food choice, and served Aspall's cider (I'm not a beer drinker!). Their haddock and chips was very good value, and was a tasty favourite. Now the menu has reduced to barely half its previous range, haddock has been replaced by a "fish of the... More

We went for a working lunch, service was quite speedy considering we were quite a large party. We all chose from the lunch and lite bites menu, and our food was hot and well presented.

My husband and I had a lazy afternoon lunch in the garden here recently. The service was fast and friendly, and our food was fresh and hot. The garden is at the junction of a busy road, but you really can't tell as the building mostly shields and noise. The garden furniture is hefty and solid, but I did have... More
