Food fine, service not

The Ship has been a long standing choice, the Chef & Brewer menu beats the normal Premier Inn menus, however the gloss is fading fast. The food is still good but like many places the staffing levels in the restaurant and bar is not sufficient. In the restaurant no single person is assigned to a... read more

Six of us meet 2 or 3 times a year and usually go to the Ship inn as it is convenient for the Forest of Dean and Bristol but we will not be returning.. Just about every thing that could go wrong with our food and drinks went wrong.. Our table was booked for 7 pm and after a wait... More

Our party of 10 people thoroughly enjoyed the evening meal last Monday night. Steaks lovely: fish pie lovely: in fact everyone's starters and main meals were thoroughly enjoyed, and very good value for money. A complete refit takes place in August which should make this venue better still. Ignore any bad review of this place. Helpful and friendly staff too.

What went wrong??. Admittedly I've not been to be the ship inn for awhile due to illness but speak often to my partner on how amazing the carvery is and the excellent customer service. That's until this Sunday.....when we first got there we noticed there was no longer a carvery (which is a shame, as always seemed popular) However we... More

Not good at all shame as we come here a lot tonight we brought friends an was embarrassed by the poor service we know the manager left a few months ago so perhaps they need to look at the new manager as the reviews have gone down hill recently. We were hoping to do Christmas here this year but we... More

A shadow of it's former self. Go into Thornbury instead. Thornbury itself (just down the hill past the Ship) is renowned for 2 excellent fish and chip shops and very good eateries. It's worth the trip down the hill, it's only 1/2 mile.

Stopped in for an evening meal on the fly. Was offered a table outside which was fine as it was too busy and hot inside. Food arrived in good time, and was palatable and could have been warmer, but was not going to blow you away. Fairly good selection of drinks, but again could be better. Obviously a popular destination,... More

Another standard Premier Inn breakfast, but sadly a poor continental selection with packaged croissants, crumpets that would double up as coasters and a toaster that needed a science degree to work or at least a simple man like me was confused by its operation and the lady that was our breakfast attendant offered no instruction on its operation either, I... This used to be a great place to eat but sadly over the past few months it has declined greatly. Firstly the Sunday Carvery was stopped. This was so popular that you had to book a table in advance but now you can just walk in and get a table on a Sunday. So many people have abandoned The Ship... More

We were staying in the Premier Inn and booked a table when we arrived. We were told that 7:30 was the earliest available table and arrived at the bar a few minutes before. We had to wait for the table for a further while, which can happen if a customer takes longer than expected. Once shown through to the back... More
