A very warm welcome to the Butchers Arms. One of the oldest pubs in the Forest of Dean, we have been welcoming locals and visitors alike since 1802. Our menu combines signature 'Butchers' dishes with traditional British favourites, our modern recipes and grills are all prepared by Head Chef Matt Wheeler and his team from the freshest ingredients. Wherever possible we will endeavour to provide produce from local suppliers so you can truly have a taste of the Forest of Dean. We pride ourselves in providing good quality food, excellent service and a relaxed atmosphere. All our food is cooked fresh to order, so please allow a little time for service. We look forward to seeing you. Matt and Scott Directors

Basic menu but all choices are good.

I've eaten here a few times; the menu never seems to change but the choices are good so that's not really a problem.

Another great visit to The Butchers. A great selection of food. Starter and main were great, and the Malteser cheesecake was amazing. Only criticism would be it's a tad expensive.

Met my family for an impromptu visit, had a lovely Sunday lunch, which was nice and hot, and extra gravy brought to us with plenty of meat. The deserts were home made too we shared a trio which was superb. Service good too, although they were slow with the bill and never came back for the money, so we had... More

We visited the Butchers Arms in Clearwell, whilst we were staying in the village for a wedding. We arrived on a friday night. The kind waiter advised us that they had stopped serving food 10 minutes ago, but if we could chose our main from the menu quite quickly they would be more than happy to serve us. We were... More

Lovely pub. The inside is very cozy with a fire. The food was alright - Hunter's Chicken main was overcooked. Desert was a bit too sweet. Great atmosphere though.

Dined at The Butchers last night and can only describe the. Experience as Brilliant. Food was hot, served quickly and good quality. Staff were friendly and checked several times on progress. Wine was good value for money but was not delivered to the table which was strange. Toilet facilities were good and clean Worth a visit.

Lovely cosy atmosphere just a few minutes from clearwell castle. Good choice of food and the staff were very accommodating. I really enjoyed my main course, a beef burger and found the triple cooked chips delicious, and not too expensive either.

Very cosy location, nice for a quiet meal out. Good good but the menu choice could be larger. Serving staff could be a little more assertive but this was a few months ago that we visited. Overall enjoyable experience.

I maybe a little hard on the rating as ideally I would of given 3.5 stars. I think my wife and I probably did not chose the " Best Dish or combinations of dishes ". The next table had a roast and then cheese cake for dessert which looked Fab ! We were not feeling too hungry and chose Cheese... More
