We had a very friendly and helpful welcome for a large lunch party of 11. Sat outside, although it was fairly empty inside, as we had a dog with us. Toilets were immaculate. Reasonable range of drinks. Food was very good, with ample portions.

a power cut early evening prompted us to eat out (hoping that power cut was not widespread), as most pubs/restaurants in Forest of Dean offer good food we opted for Butchers Arms as we had not been there for a couple of months, did not book so took a chance as it was midweek. They were quite busy but if... More

An excellent pub with a slightly better than average choice of menu for a pub, on the positive side, well cooked and served food with an excellent variety of fresh vegetables, on the negative side, service was a little slow, but the pub was exceptionally busy on the evening I ate there and I think the number of customers caught... Dined here a few times over the years for Sunday lunch, and have noticed on the last few visits, the decline in service and the quality of food, don't get me wrong it was still good but not as good as it used to be. The reception was fine once you had got through the bar area, which I can... More

Nice real ales, and good burgers, Clearwell is a pleasant village close to 2 other attractions - the Caves and Puzzlewood. Good stop-off for lunch. The Castle is private, so can't be visited unless you're getting married!

Our meals were all delicious and well cooked, the portions are huge in my opinion they are too big. Even the little butchers portions were plenty for an adult, my sons were full after eating their starter of garlic bread & cheese it was two sides of a full sized baguette each! It would put me off having three courses... More

We popped in really late, chancing our arms for a bit of late night dessert and a nightcap. Despite it being late, the staff were fabulous and served us an incredible Lemon Tart and Ice Cream. Honestly, the Lemon Tart is just to die for! Really pleasant atmosphere in the bar too, seemed a nice mix of locals and visitors.... More
