A very warm welcome to the Butchers Arms. One of the oldest pubs in the Forest of Dean, we have been welcoming locals and visitors alike since 1802. Our menu combines signature 'Butchers' dishes with traditional British favourites, our modern recipes and grills are all prepared by Head Chef Matt Wheeler and his team from the freshest ingredients. Wherever possible we will endeavour to provide produce from local suppliers so you can truly have a taste of the Forest of Dean. We pride ourselves in providing good quality food, excellent service and a relaxed atmosphere. All our food is cooked fresh to order, so please allow a little time for service. We look forward to seeing you. Matt and Scott Directors

Food glorious food!

We visited this pub twice whilst on holiday, and we found it to be great. Nice staff and good service. You do have to wait awhile for food, but that's a sign that it is being freshly prepared, and it was worth it!

Good food and service. Dog friendly in the bar area but you do have to book. Don't be deceived by the size of the portions - they are bigger than they look. Midweek special is currently 3 courses for £16.95 from a selected choice but very good value. Decent choice of beer and cider on tap. Friendly locals

We booked as advised for an evening meal. There was adequate parking. We were welcomed and seated comfortably and the menu was fairly comprehensive. There was a midweek deal on which I found a bit complicated to work out and we also had a 10% discount courtesy of our cottage owners. The meal was served hot and nicely presented with... More

We were a group of six celebrating an anniversary. It is a pub but has a somewhat better menu selection than the average. The food is well presented and well cooked. Being a pub drinks were of the normal range plus a decent wine list. It isn't meant for those who would like a quiet time but an enjoyable experience.

We stayed in Clearwell for 3 days as a surprise for my birthday. We ate at The Butchers Arms each night. The food was great. Would recommend a visit.

Went to the Butchers Arms for dinner, there were 4 of us and all meals lovely. Beer and wine good. Prawn cocktail lovely and best pepper sauce I have ever had anywhere in the world.

Steak cooked beautifully but lacked flavour. Staff welcoming and attentive. Beautiful place to eat, great background music and attention to detail on table decs and lovely glasses for long drinks and port. Disappointing that they cld not make me garlic butter when it shld be an easy request.

We ate 3 nights here whilst staying next door at The Tudor Farmhouse Hotel. Great value 3 course menu, unfortunately we couldn't manage 3 courses every night! Good selection of excellent quality pub food, served in nice surroundings. My favourite was the goats cheese quiche & the Thai fishcakes. If we lived closer we would definitely return

Like the food - steak was good and cooked rare (a good rare). the pepper sauce was not as peppery but decent meal overall. Tad expensive for pub grub. The pub drinking area inside itself is small.
