A reasonable lunch in Dunmow

Nice surroundings, quiet at lunchtime, but some tables too close.. Meal deal or specials board good (but can vary) and good value but desserts disappointing. Service attentive. Chairs comfortable. Wine list nothing special.

Met with friends who were staying in the hotel, for an evening meal. Starter of crab was overpowered by the sauce and the main of spatchcocked was unremarkable. My husband's sea bream was served on linquini which was rather too much.

Went in for lunch, and chose from the pub menu. My prawn mayo on granary was delicious as was my companion's ham, egg and chips. Will definitely go again, as this was my first visit. Staff were very attentive, service was quick and food was great.

We ate at the restaurant for breakfast as part of our overnight stay at the Hotel! The Eggs Benedict was very good indeed, as was the vast selection of pastries, fruit, cereal, bread and juice at the buffet table!!! Service was very good, food was very good!!! However the menu for lunch and dinner isn't particularly vast, and is rather... More

I repaired to the bar with a number of friends to celebrate a special occassion. Whilst the premises is listed as a hotel, it is weel known and frequented as a pub/bar and restaurant. We ordered champagne at £75 a bottle as well as sundry beverages, my first "round" came to about £120. The bar staff were helpful and enthusiastic... More

I visited this restaurant on the 10th July as we were staying over in Great Dunmow for a wedding. We decided to eat here as it was a lovely hot day and the inside and outside of the restaurant was decorated really nicely and the food on the menu sounded lovely. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly... More

I visited the restaurant with family (group of 6 plus baby) on 28 June. This was the first time I had been here and I thought the decor and setup was lovely, and set my expectations for a really nice lunch. Sadly I was very disappointed! The service was incredibly slow, even though at the time of sitting down we... More

Quaint but not much room to manoevre we found with a large buggy and child on board. having said they the staff accomodated us superbly and we enjoyed a comfortable Sunday lunchtime. The food was excellent and the service friendly and efficient. Prices as expected for the standard. Toilets very cramped but in old buildings one has to compromise. Will... More

We found this hotel/pub through the Sawday's pub app and had a very nice lunch! The food and drink were great and good service. A little disappointed by the outdoor space if you don't want to smoke but it is a town centre pub so.... Worth a visit and handy for Stansted Airport.

Looked good from the outside. Unfortunately the wine had not been chilled properly and my portion of fish so small I was concerned that I was eating someone's pet goldfish. Over all we would not return or recommend. Such a shame as we came away with a feeling of being underfed and overcharged.
