This historic coaching inn dates back to the 1700s and has been a traveller's retreat and local favourite ever since. The Saracen's Head was newly refurbished in May 2012 and is now thriving as the heart of Great Dunmow. With cozy spots near the open fire to relax and enjoy a pint and a beautiful restaurant to enjoy fresh cooked food with friends The Saracens is the perfect place to come for all occasions. Disappointed

Was going to eat here as we have many times before but watching a waitress sit of the floor cuddling a dog then going back to serving tables without washing her hands put us right off.

I wanted to post a review earlier but not had time. My husband and I moved to Dunmow 9 months ago and decided to stay local to celebrate New Years Eve. We invited our friends to join us and we're so happy happy we chose The Saracens Head. The food was very good, the staff couldn't do enough for us,... More

We had heard good reports about the Saracens so thought we would visit this evening for a meal. The service was poor, the food luke warm or cold and no interest shown about our custom. We will be taking our custom elsewhere in future.

Wow what an amazing place this is, the food is just to die for. Myself and my wife both enjoyed our Christmas and I can honestly say most of it was to do with this place. The customer service is fantastic, the food compliments the place and my life the chef can make a venison loin taste amazing and look... More

Went to the Saracens Head for an pre-Christmas lunch. Sat down at 1.15 and still waiting for the food at 2.15. With hindsight I wish we were still waiting now as it was very disappointing. Three people had the Russian stew which was served cold and looked like it had been reheated from frozen with solid dumplings. The turkey mains... More

I was part of a very enjoyable party in the upstairs room 12/12/15. The introductory welcome we received got our party off to a cracking start, and the service continued to be efficient but relaxed. The food was plentiful and a good dance and drink was enjoyed after dinner. Many thanks to the team.

I had the most delicious fish dish for lunch at the Saracens Head Restaurant. The fish, potatoes and green beans were fantastic! The waitress was attentive yet respectful of our privacy. Will definitely be back!

Indifferent service, mediocre food with some truly awful points. A reasonable dish of fish was accompanied by an unrecognisable lump of discoloured vegetable matter that was supposed to be potato gratin. Goat's cheese salad served on a bed of limp, dry rocket with no dressing. Roast turkey was a reconstituted joint accompanied by rubbery roast potatoes and burnt parsnip.

As a party of 9 we were tucked away which was fine but the only Christmas touch was a cheap cracker each. Service was sporadic, lacked enthusiasm and was rarely with a smile. We had to pre order several weeks ago but it was still incorrect. The food was very bland and the potato served with the fish dish was... More
