I had organised a meal for my girlfriends birthday recently at The Saracens. All of us left happy after what we all agreed was a great meal, which started by a prompt greeting in the bar and an offer to have a drink or go through to the table . Once in the restaurant we were looked after by very... More

I've eaten at the Saracens periodically since it opened, although I won't be returning. The prices are on the top end, but the food and the service do not match. It started a lot better but has consistently and progressively declined. My most recent meal was started with duck croquettes with pickled vegetables. It was ok, not bursting with flavour... More

Difficult to say more than that really. Over priced; £26.50 for a pub steak. Poor quality food: tepid slabs of under-cooked potato served in greasy mock fryer baskets Served without a smile; that only comes after you get served. It would appear the staff have been trained in avoiding eye contact. 15 minutes to get a drink at the bar... More

I have visited the pub many times, the service is consistently poor, the staff are not friendly and are very slow and untrained. The drinks are expensive. Food can be nice some times but on other occasions it's poor. The place never has enough staff.

We have visited this place many times before and normally had a good meal. But this time is was ruined. 1 member of staff for the whole resturant and 1 for the whole bar. The poor girl in the resturant was run off her feet. Therefore the service was very slow and very poor (not her fault she was on... More

This place looks nice but thats about it. It is one of these places that wants to be everything. It is a pub, restaurant, wine bar, cocktail bar, hotel etc. We had dinner and the food was just poor and it took ages to be served. All the waitresses are very young and they are not very well trained and... More

Early in September i took a client there who was disabled. We wanted a drink only. No one assisted us with her or her chair. She had to abandon the chair and try to walk in. we were made to sit on a small table by the entrance as we were not eating a full meal. I felt so embarrassed... More

Dropped in here for lunch to test the waters before staying in the hotel for a wedding next year. All four main courses were of a good standard and mine in particular-the Sea Bass-was beautifully presented and very tasty. Puddings were also very good. The service was pleasant and efficient. The building is very old and quaint with a pleasant... More

A nice enough hotel/bar but not for those without money to burn. Drinks expensive, service slow. Not enough seats. the 'beautiful people/divorcees set' are to be found here plus local business owners. Good point is that the Dunmow drunks go elsewhere due to prices.

I really enjoyed the food here. I had rolled chicken stuffed with chorizo. My partner had plaice with big chunky potato wedges. Both plates were beautifully presented. The service was friendly. A good atmosphere in the bar. The place to go to eat if you're staying the night, like we were, in the Travelodge down the road, before flying out... More
