Went in on spec. Menu was OK but very expensive for Great Dunmow! I ordered smoked salmon (very small piece indeed) which was fine. My son ordered the terrine which was OK. For main I ordered fillet steak with a red wine jus. I was told that I would need a steak knife (which never appeared). I asked for skinny... More

Having stopped in to see friends on the way back from a holiday in Cornwall with parents and parents-in-law we popped down the road 5 mins to this great little find. We rang ahead as we were party of 10 plus two kids and a dog. It was around 3pm on a Sunday. They told us to come on down... More

We visited without a reservation last Friday. Got a table easily enough, which although seemed lovely as we were sitting in the window overlooking the high street, we were rather close to the only other table of people occupying the restaurant at the time, which seemed odd and a little uncomfortable, also the window was drafty and this did affect... The food was very good, probably in the mid to high price bracket. The set meals were very good value. The waiting staff were very good, attentive but not intrusive.

We visited the Saracens Head as we have been doing for the past 20 years to so, We went to the bar at about 1730 hrs for a quick drink before dinner to find what only can be described as a gathering of very drunken people. The worst part was two drunken men at the bar using extremely foul language... More

This little restaurant was fantastic. Very busy and atmospheric. The food - although not what you would class as the " best you have ever eaten", was very very good. It is top quality well cooked dishes. Our fillet steak was beautiful . The staff could not try harder or be more pleasant. This is a very good pub restaurant... More

Having recently moved to Great Dunmow, we've been trying out local places. Dinner here started badly, no-one offered to take our coats or umbrella, we weren't offered any bread, olives etc. The wine list was reasonable, and having selected the Chablis, not only was in plonked on the table in a bucket and left, but when asked if it was... I've been eating a drinking in the Sarries Head since it was refurbished, food is well made, freshly cooked and reasonably priced, both in the bar and restaurant, Friday nights in the bar have a great atmosphere , however it can take ages to get served as the bar is quite small, staff are very pleasant and well trained. Good... More

I had organised a meal for my girlfriends birthday recently at The Saracens. All of us left happy after what we all agreed was a great meal, which started by a prompt greeting in the bar and an offer to have a drink or go through to the table . Once in the restaurant we were looked after by very... More
