Lovely decor, super friendly staff. The menu was quite varied with some unusual combinations (lamb with an avocado and peanut sauce??!) and I loved all my choices. My friend wasn't keen on her pea and mint risotto...said it was a bit bland, but it sounds bland to me so wouldn't have been my choice anyway. Staff were lovely and made... More

Smart mix of modern and trad' decor and nice atmosphere. Service friendly but slow, went to the bar myself to chase down the drinks order. Food ok big generous portions but quality variable. My starter was very under seasoned and I'm not a fan of salt which was ironic as it was Salt & pepper squid; taste was bland. Steak... More

Booked a table (online, always a bonus) for Fathers Day lunch. Was delighted with the menu - varied and interesting, as well as being reasonably priced The food was delicious, service attentive but not invasive and friendly but not over familiar Will definitely be going back for dinner another day

Ate here on a Sunday evening, had to be early as service ends about 8pm but it was the only place around that was open on a Sunday evening. Good fillet steak, very attentive and pleasant waitress, excellent recommended wine. Accompaniments to main meal disappointing.

Lovely country village pub, with a gourmet feel. Service is somewhat variable, the bar is very slow when busy, but on the whole always friendly. The food is really good, with the chef being bold with his dishes and presentation. A similar experience to it's sister pub in Saffron Walden. Always book to avoid disappointment!

I come to The Saracens most Sunday's for lunch, my father also takes a lot of his clients here. For the most part we always have a good experience. However a few weeks ago we arrived for Sunday lunch, there didn't appear to be a lot of staff on and we were kept waiting. Starters arrived the scallops were a... More

Went in on spec. Menu was OK but very expensive for Great Dunmow! I ordered smoked salmon (very small piece indeed) which was fine. My son ordered the terrine which was OK. For main I ordered fillet steak with a red wine jus. I was told that I would need a steak knife (which never appeared). I asked for skinny... More

Having stopped in to see friends on the way back from a holiday in Cornwall with parents and parents-in-law we popped down the road 5 mins to this great little find. We rang ahead as we were party of 10 plus two kids and a dog. It was around 3pm on a Sunday. They told us to come on down... More
