Food

Used to visit here a lot, but seems the portions have got smaller and the chips are just no longer the same, however the fish was very tasty!

It used to be really nice and there was a bit of a wait that was worth while. I sung its praises to anyone that listened. I maybe visit once a month or so but the last two or three visits have been an unacceptable. The last two times I've got home with an incomplete order. I watched this last... More

Been here a few times, really wish it was good as it's my local, but it gets worse every time. I live local, but I drive to Maldon for mine which should tell you something. Horrible horrible staff, ridiculous wait times, even for the simplest orders. Don't know how they stay in business.

Owner of the Danbury Fryer owns Madison Heights and a few other fish shops so he knows his stuff!! Never had a bad a fish and chips here, although chips could do with being cooked a bit longer, but that's my preference... Great staff and always happy to serve... Opening hours could be extended though as every time I fancy... More

We are not local or regular customers to the Danbury Fryer but there seems to a decline in the standards from when it first opened. On our last ( and final) visit on Friday we were disappointed with the fish which had a soggy batter(never a problem before) and a curry sauce which was nothing short of mild water with a... Have had cod and chips from here a couple of times in the past and it was pretty good but was extremely underwhelmed on our last visit. It was a busy Friday night so I would have expected the food to be cooked fresh and be piping hot. I live locally, so it was on the plate in minutes but... More

This is not the first time I have come here. And each time it just gets worse ,On walking in you expect something special only to find out last night the two young ladies were rude and as welcoming cold in summer months . I walked in and they were looking down not even looking at who’s coming in ,... More

We have tried to persevere with this place as its our local take away have been there on a few occasions whilst we were not over impressed with the standard / quantity of food and the service being very hit and miss but we always try and buy local because at the end of the day it is someones business.... The whole meal looked like it was reheated processed food, and I was not convinced that the fish was adequately cooked. Unfortunately, most of it ended up in the bin.....the only positives were that the fish came in a nice box and that you also got some tartare sauce and a wedge of lemon. It's a shame as I'm sure...
