Amazing roast

A friend at work knows the owner and I'd read the mixed reviews. Decided to give it a try. Given its Sunday I decided to go for the traditional roast. A huge portion and giant yorkshires. But nothing could surpass the roast potatoes. They tasted amazing, I'm no chef but whatever he used to season... read more

We have been frequenting the Duck Inn for many years then stopped going when it changed ownership. Recently we were in the area so decided to try it again. The interior is the same, it was not at all busy and the selection on the menu was limited. The prices were too high for the dishes which were pleasant enough... More

My partner and I went to the Duck on one Saturday afternoon. Down winding roads the pub was soon to be found in a quiet spot which suited us greatly and upon arrival we were greeted with friendly staff that attended to our needs. For lunch i had cod and chips and my partner had the steak and ale pie... More

Went with friends on a Wednesday afternoon. The pub looks attractive from the outside but seems very tired internally. Also only one other customer during our visit. We were served by a very matter of fact middle aged lady who to be honest must have had a complete personality bypass. Two cask beers on - Adnams Broadside and Doombar. I... More

The Duck innn is well off the beaten track but that doesnt prevent it from providing an excellent service and dining experience. the staff were very welcoming and the extensive menu provided plenty of choice. The portion sizes are generous and the meals are well presented and the price is very reasonable. The pub itself is quite dated and has... More

My wife and I happened upon The Duck by chance on a Sunday afternoon having narrowly avoided one of those awful beer festival things at the pub we originally set out for. What a bonus! It is a pretty pub situated in a nice bit of countryside near Writtle. The place seemed to have lots of appeal as a stopping... More

Taken to The Duck Inn on Fathers Day 21st June. The Inn itself is a beautiful old chocolate box pub. The Staff were very welcoming. We all had Sunday Roasts ( 6 people) and the quality was excellent. We would highly recommend this pub.

This pub was recommended by a friend. Our first impression on opening the door was the terrible musty smell and the fact that at 7.45pm it was empty! We were given the buy one get one free menu and the normal menu. Both were very basic. We asked what the specials were and were told there wasn't any. The best... More

We came here for Fathers Day family lunch. Beautiful old pub with a real traditional feel and decor. We all had starters and a main which for most of us was roast which also had a choice of beef, lamb or Turkey. If not there was plenty of other options too. Great veg selection to accompany the mains and good... More

Looked at the online menu and thought, great so booked a table. When we got there we were given a menu or rather a piece of paper with a list of basic meals on it. When I asked where the menu stated on the internet was, I was told that that was an old menu and that the website had... More
