This restaurant is in a country setting, yet within easy reach of Chelmsford. It is smallish, in what looks like a manor house. The atmosphere is welcoming and the room is tastefully furnished. The staff are very pleasant and efficient. The menu is very interesting. Many dishes can be ordered as either a starter or main course. I particularly enjoyed... More

We visited for Lunch on a busy Thursday but found everything to be as good as usual. Great Service. atmosphere and delicious Food. My wife had a very tasty Crab Salad and I had the Smoked Haddock as Mains - both excellent. Once again well done to the Team - keep up the good work.

Ate here last minute and we were lucky enough to get a booking after a cancellation. The food was really good quality and there was a nice relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant. As other reviewers have said the service was slightly below expectations but it did not spoil the evening for us.

We spent the evening here, celebrating my friend's birthday. The service was perfect, plenty of attention without feeling pressured or overwhelmed. There was plenty of choice on the menu and the when the food arrived it was delicious. Its a long time since I have been so impressed by a restaurant - thank you so much for a perfect evening.

My wife took me to the Cuckoo for my 55 birthday. The last time I had visited, it was called the Thatchers and was an old farmers pub. What a transformation! the decoration was pleasant, the ale selection at the (now) small bar was good but the food! Oh boy, the food was fantastic. When you put fresh fish and... More

Been a few times before, but felt I had to review the Cuckoo. We were a party of six (me, wife, three grown up children & my mum. We were celebrating my mum and my birthday. If you haven't been before, the cuckoo is nestled away nicely off the A414 down a long driveway, the decor is clean, bright country... More

Felt I had to comment as the review for the service for the same day we visited could not have been any more different. This was our first visit and the service was faultless when I couldn't decide what to have for main the waitress suggested I have one of my choices (the fish cakes) for a starter to share... More
