Visited for lunch on wive's birthday. The atmosphere is really nice and the staff professional and you can see they like their jobs. My starter was scallops, not worth the money. 3 sorry small scallops eaten within milliseconds with something that is supposedly garlic mayo. Main was pheasant. Better, worth the money, a bit overcooked. Dessert was great. My wife... More

Great place for lunch and the food is superb. Good location and not a chain..... however the ladies that serve tend to talk "at you" which is unnerving and a little condescending though probably not intentional. The decibels of ladies lunching is also a bit off putting. Take your ipod and enjoy the food.

Went to the Cuckoo for dinner on Saturday night as a party of 4 friends. To give some context to my review, I have eaten at most of the highly rated restaurants in Essex plus others in London and other parts of the world. We enjoyed a pre-dinner drink at our table while we looked at the menu. Most of... More

Great setting and amazing food! The Menu selection is one of the best, with so many starters and mains in offer. The food is tasty, beautifully presented and great portion sizes. The service is very good and the setting itself is beautiful and relaxing. Would thoroughly recommend! Pork and pheasant scotch egg starter with homemade Piccadilly was simply stunning and... More

Introduced to this restaurant by friends; comfortably furnished in a charming rural location. A large menu and the dishes that we selected were good quality and delicious. The rope mussels in cream sauce were not the usually bland offering but full of flavour but not over powering. The oriental fusion of slow roast belly pork with pak choi was excellent... More

We wanted to try somewhere different but still stay local. After looking on tripadvisor we found The Cuckoo. We were not disappointed, from the outside it look quirky and the feel inside was homely and welcoming. The food was very tasty and well presented. We will certainly be back and would recommend to friends and family.

The Cuckoo is nestled in the middle of the countryside and is a quaint, converted cottage which only serves a handful of covers (I believe up to 35) and therefore, feels intimate and cosy. The service was professional, yet friendly and warm. Once we had made our order, we were served fresh home made bread. I'm not usually a massive... More

A calm, gentle atmosphere. A very wide Menu. Delicious food well cooked and presented. Adequate car parking facilities. The only thing missing was a smile on the faces of the waitresses. However, we shall return!

Accomplished cooking at this tiny dining outpost former pub on the edge of Chelmsford, for which I have to say was a vast improvement for me from the constant mediocrity I've experienced with restuarants In this area,.....i've found it otherwise more reliable to stay at home and cook than to go out and be dissapointed. I won't bore you with all... More
