Came on the 19 th Sept 2014, table for 8 booked , was warned that they might not be able to cope with us all in one go!? as it is a very small boutique restaurant ! but saying that the service was fantastic the food brilliant , Couldn't really ask for anything else!

My fiancé booked this restaurant to celebrate that we had just booked our wedding! I had never heard of The Cuckoo and was so surprised when we arrived - the restaurant looks like a little house in the middle of nowhere - a few guests were sitting outside enjoying the evening sun - lovely. The restaurant is small but you... More

Had lunch with my wife yesterday to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Food was excellent - we both had duck spring rolls which were perfectly cooked then a delicious fish pie. Couldn't manage dessert but enjoyed tea & coffee with home-made petits fours. Staff were attentive & helpful. Decor is tasteful & room has a cosy feel. Plenty of outside seating... More

A small but beautifully presented restaurant. Good range of menu choices with really well presented and enjoyable food. I had a generous portion of tempura prawns followed by an even more generous serving of baked cod with a crispy topping. My companion had pate and pork and we both really enjoyed our meal. The ice cream for dessert was great... More

We were looking for a restaurant for a three-in-one celebration lunch (two birthdays and a wedding anniversary), and found The Cuckoo via Tripadvisor. We had been to the 'top 2' rated Chelmsford restaurants in recent months, and only rated them average or poor for food quality. However, The Cuckoo should EASILY claim top spot for Chelmsford. Such a pleasant surprise!... More

My son and daughter in law chose this restaurant for my partners 70th birthday and what a great find. Superb food and service. Great wine choice too. The warm salty bread that they served was out of this world and we had to get some more. The meal choice was really excellent with huge portions.Fresh crab, beautifully cooked meats, good vegetarian... More

We booked the Cuckoo for a private party to celebrate my mum's 80th Birthday. I would just like to say a big thank you to Annette, Brendan and Shirley for making her day so special. The booking was for 25 of us last Sunday ( the maximum they cater for is 33 I believe). Champagne on arrival a lot of... More

Our second visit to this gem in the countryside. The food was just as great as before with a good range to choose from. Atmosphere is lovely but don't forget to book a taxi if you want a glass of beer or two.
