My Husband and I are regular visitors to the Acanteen. We really love their coffee and also their Honey, yoghurt, granola & berries pot. We have noticed that the service has gotten really slow, over the last few months (sometimes waiting 15min or more for our drinks), but we have also noticed that they sometimes charge are extra for the... I'd never noticed this place before, but found it on this site, and thought I'd give it a try. It certainly didn't disappoint! A great coffee and a full English didn't cost the Earth, and it was all very fresh, and very generous portion sizes - certainly not your local 'greasy spoon'. The staff were friendly, and mentioned that they... More

If you have not been here before then I suggest you put it in your diary and make a visit. It is one of the nicest places to have breakfast or lunch due to the fact the food is very healthy and the quality of it is fantastic. The lamb burger is delicious and the smoothies are very tasty. It... More

We arrived at around 10:30 on a Sunday morning and the place was heaving. However a table for two was fairly quickly vacated and the staff were super speedy, clearing & wiping and so we were seated rapidly. When we ordered we were told that there was a 30min wait for food. We were quite happy with this but noticed... More

Acanteen is a bit of wildcard to me, at least in Chelmsford. Go to London or down south and these sort of places would be plentiful. Up here in Essex, while we have plenty of chains, pubs and fine dining, I struggle to think of anywhere else that fills the niche of 'fresh, independent and veg friendly'. The good -If... More

I have been to Acanteen many times and have never been anything other than very pleased with both the food and the servcie. it can get very busy so it is worth making the effort to get there early on the weekend.

Acanteen is an upmarket deli, selling salads, sandwiches, wraps etc. the food is fresh and of fairly good quality, but is rather expensive. You can't buy much for less than £7/£8 and on a sandwich and a drink during your lunch break that's quite a bit! I like the wooden bench style dining and in summer there are chairs outside.... More

Great place, wonderful healthy but tasty food, smoothies and juices are fab, VERY busy a lot but clear why! Seats are beautiful but not great for a long time, busy and loud sometimes but worth it. Freshly cooked so not instant but who needs instant? Go, see for yourself but maybe first time, give 12.30 til 2 a miss. Service... More

Always had good food and service here. Eaten lunch brunch and breakfast. Cakes always good but don't often have room for them as portions tend to be generous! When full the service can be a bit slow but food makes up for it.

While it isn't cheap, it is independent and it delivers on quality. The vegetarian big breakfast was status quo, but the juice and coffee were far better than your average spot. I would recommend trying the filter brew and split it with a friend as it is enough for two, but you can spoil yourself and order it for one... More
