Me and my husband came here today for lunch. I had the best fish finger sandwich ever- lovely fresh bread, four fish fingers, and definitely homemade tartare sauce. Also had wedges with a garlic mayo with the sandwich. My husband had the Malaysian curry and it tasted amazing. He was thrilled with it. Very reasonable price too for a good... More

One of the best places in Chelmsford to enjoy a brunch. Inside the small shop front you'll find a wide, airy rear space with plenty of light, recycled vintage wooden church chairs, lots of menu-laden black boards and generally a bit of an old school-house vibe. The food on display, especially the cake selection, looks delicious. I've had a chorizo... More

This is by far our favourite place to go for breakfast. We regularly go as a couple or with family members for breakfast. Or I sneak in for a coffee with friends. The food is delicious and service is good. You can tell they use good quality produce especially sausages and burgers. They actually have flavour unlike the offerings of some... More

My Husband and I are regular visitors to the Acanteen. We really love their coffee and also their Honey, yoghurt, granola & berries pot. We have noticed that the service has gotten really slow, over the last few months (sometimes waiting 15min or more for our drinks), but we have also noticed that they sometimes charge are extra for the... I'd never noticed this place before, but found it on this site, and thought I'd give it a try. It certainly didn't disappoint! A great coffee and a full English didn't cost the Earth, and it was all very fresh, and very generous portion sizes - certainly not your local 'greasy spoon'. The staff were friendly, and mentioned that they... More

If you have not been here before then I suggest you put it in your diary and make a visit. It is one of the nicest places to have breakfast or lunch due to the fact the food is very healthy and the quality of it is fantastic. The lamb burger is delicious and the smoothies are very tasty. It... More

We arrived at around 10:30 on a Sunday morning and the place was heaving. However a table for two was fairly quickly vacated and the staff were super speedy, clearing & wiping and so we were seated rapidly. When we ordered we were told that there was a 30min wait for food. We were quite happy with this but noticed... More

Acanteen is a bit of wildcard to me, at least in Chelmsford. Go to London or down south and these sort of places would be plentiful. Up here in Essex, while we have plenty of chains, pubs and fine dining, I struggle to think of anywhere else that fills the niche of 'fresh, independent and veg friendly'. The good -If... More

I have been to Acanteen many times and have never been anything other than very pleased with both the food and the servcie. it can get very busy so it is worth making the effort to get there early on the weekend.

Acanteen is an upmarket deli, selling salads, sandwiches, wraps etc. the food is fresh and of fairly good quality, but is rather expensive. You can't buy much for less than £7/£8 and on a sandwich and a drink during your lunch break that's quite a bit! I like the wooden bench style dining and in summer there are chairs outside.... More
