Fantastic little cafe with good coffee and healthy choices on the menu which is so refreshing! It was nice to see a full range of Juices, Smoothies and raw treats on the menu as well as the staples like the full english, poached eggs and of course good coffee. The decor is fitting too.

Brief stopover in Chelmsford to meet work colleague. Very busy for a Saturday morning at around 9am - got in before the rush! Obviously the regulars knew where the best seats were! Slightly cramped into a small round table and a draught from the door. Excellent low carb breakfast and very hot coffee - not very strong to be slightly... More

Acanteen is my favourite place for lunch in Chelmsford. Plenty of interesting dishes, portobello mushroom burger, veggi lentil burger, tartlets, halloumi and feta wrap, falafel, tartlets quiche and lots of healthy salad options. The atmosphere is canteen style and rustic, plywood floors and old school wooden type chairs adds great character to the place. Just queue up and order food... More

I love the food in acanteen, but always find it very much on the expensive side. I recently got a fish finger sandwich with a side of potato wedges, and it was £12. The food is nice, but really not worth those kind of prices.

I have now been to Acanteen twice for breakfasts now - I can't believe I haven't before! First time was the pancake stack and the second was a good old fashioned fry up. If you're into quality, hearty, freerange and fairtrade ingredients then this is the place for you. There's a good choice of meals from clean eating to the... More

To call this place a canteen is about right. It's a bit more upmarket than a caff as (salads and quiches not just jacket potatoes) but not quite a restaurant as one has to queue in line and pay upfront before waiting for the food to be brought to your table. It doesn't appear to be licensed either but has... More

I absolutely love this place! Lunch for me was 'chunky butternut squash & chickpea soup', which had such a great tasty flavour. My husband (who paid - thank you!) had a falafel & halloumi cheese wrap equally as tasty !! Service fantastic as usual - thank you for a lovely birthday lunch!

Tried Acanteen for the first time today after having read the positive reviews on TA. I had the cooked breakfast which was cooked just the way I like it with bacon and sausages both cooked well done. The sausage and bacon both tasted of quality premium products. The fried eggs were also cooked to perfection. Latte was also good. The... More
