It's not the most attractive looking pub and the outside seating is on a road but all the food is made to order and is as fresh as can be. I can't fault the smoked ham (beautiful) Ploughman's we had, served with a really fresh salad, so I have to give it full points.

Not a meal of gastronomic note, but basic good, tasty, pub-grub. No portion control either, so go hungry!! We went on a Tuesday evening, in September, but by 7pm the tables were full, so book if you have the opportunity!!

Went in for lunch expecting to have to wait for a table out the front but was really pleased to be told the dog was welcome even a bowl of water by the fire place for the dogs. the pub could possibly do with a bit of a facelift but even saying that it is full of charm there is... More

Happiness is: a huge bowl of Spaghetti Bolognese, a glass of wine and the Sunday papers at The Red Lion! Great service and delicious food.

Arrived with friends. We ordered eight different meals. All served at the same time, quite a feat, and all thoroughly enjoyed. The ordering process is a problem and has been going on for years and probably won't change. The pub has a good reputation and is always full and the staff do not have to try too hard. Recommended though.... More

I've been going to this pub for years when visiting Southwold. The menu is extensive and the food served is delicious with large portions - true pub food. The experience is completely let down by the food ordering system as described in many other reviews. If you want to teach a child how to be patient then get them in... More

Booked a table but then had to queue to place an order. Yes it was bank holiday but i queued 30 minutes to place my order having been told to come to the bar and order. When it came the food was generous and very good. The management have to address the chaos at the bar.

We spent a family day in Southwold and spoke to a couple of residents as to where to eat. I specifically said that I fancied good fish & chips and the name that came up all the time was The Red Lion along with the tip of avoiding the pier or other fish & chip shops. On arrival we were... More

I can't believe the "system" used for ordering food in this pub! I joined a long queue at the bar because only ONE member of staff takes the food orders. For most of the time in which I was queuing - two bar men were standing chatting to each other! The queue was slow, people would want to know details... More
