Great place to go

Food and service was great apart from sharing the restaurant with dogs, I even witnessed a dog on the seat level with the table which was off putting when eating

Just back from the Red Lion, They operate a queue system to order food, this clearly works as there is no pushing in. There are signs everywhere stating that the food is cooked to order, maybe heated up to order would be a better description. Typical pub fare on offer, my Scampi was a victim of being in an oven... I dont blame you my dear, fancy having to endue scampi, not exactly a foodie thing but then we have to have this on the menu for non foodies like yourself who obviously only ever eat fried food, not good for the waistline or the heart, so probably not the best place for you, there are other establishments in town... Varied menu, good service, food well prepared, delicious and very good value for money. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere - dined there two nights running and enjoyed both meals immensely. Only criticism - the plates can be a bit small for the portions!!

Sunny day, busy pub, pint of Southwold Bitter and a fish pie and veg. Perfect, couldnt fault it! Really good atmosphere both inside and out, although busy we found a table inside with ease. Service was prompt and efficient. Have been before, will go back!

After a nice day in southwold and walking along the seafront with my girlfriend. We were recommended to go to The Red Lion by a friend. We walked in and we were surrounded by dogs on the floor and customers feeding them crisps. We proceeded to order drinks, after a couple of simple questions about a German beer, the young... More

As usual I have tried to correspond privately but you have declined to answer three e mails now, I don't have the time to waste on you really but after lots of people in town asking me to make one of my , now what are becoming famous responses, apparently locals said it brightens their day, perhaps Im in the... Brilliant food and plenty of it, wide and varied menu, very welcoming and dog friendly. This place gets very busy so often needed to wait for a table in the bar area but always got one after a short wait. If we return to Southwold we will definatly be returning to here.

Our family regularly visit Southwold and all 9 of us including the children love this place. We can never go anywhere else as we love the food so much. There is such a great range and brilliant portions. A favourite of my Mum's is the plaice with capers and prawns, most the men in our family can't resist the barbecue... More

Dropped in to the Red Lion. Thought - busy pub, good sign, but total nightmare getting served. Bar staff seemed really miserable and served people out of order for drinks. Had to queue like McDonalds for food - who thought this up? Didn't feel welcoming at all. Everyone in our family said food was good, but waited an age for... More

the staff are not grumpy, they go out of there way to help, seen many customers rude to the staff in this pub, yes it's busy but that's how it is when you get good food a lot of it at a very good price. So much to choose from and cooked fresh not re heated food so yes you... More
