I have lived in Southwold all my life so far and have always thought of it as a very friendly place until last night. A friend and I decided to go to a pub for a couple of drinks as this was the first time we've been able to go out together since being 18 as she is 5 months... More

Went for lunch with the family on a Monday lunchtime. Quite busy but certainly not packed. Menu is far too complicated and this invariably means the overall quality of all the food on the menu suffers. Waited 58 mins from the time we paid until the food arrived. Asked after 40 mins whether food on its way and land lord... More

We have lunched at the Red Lion several times before and always enjoyed our meals. However, we only ever had sandwiches - until today when we decided a more substantial meal was in order. My husband ordered the lamb burger. Unfortunately, he was unable to enjoy it as the burger was flavoured with mint which he strongly dislikes. Mint is... More

We had a lovely meal here on Monday evening. We didn't book, but arrived early. The pub is dog friendly. We didn't take our dogs, but would be happy to return knowing our dogs are welcome. My Son & I had the 'special' fish pie, which is the best fish pie we ever had. Looking forward to going back for... More

We hadn't booked but there was a table available in the conservatory. Lots on the menu. Ordering straightforward. Prices reasonable - particularly for Southwold. Food arrived within 15 mins and was well received by all. Pleased to see healthy eating option available (I had smoked salmon & prawn salad).

The red lion occupies a prime site adjacent to the green in Southwold and has a super outdoor seating area. The pub welcomes dogs and there owners and has designated areas for them. There is also a dog free are for customers who do not wish to be near a bog. The bar rea is open and accessible and there... More

Had most evening meals in this Pub, the landlord was brilliant, witty and charming. HUGE meals!!!. My husband even brought his own mushy peas, which the landlord heated up after much amusement!!. Would definitely revisit.

With the weather on our side, four of us chose to have the two course lunch outside. The breaded mushroom starters weren't great but the main meals made up for them. Great portion sizes and very tasty food. Well worth a visit.

We used to eat in here every week and had a bad experience with the customer service challenged landlord and haven't been in since. We decided to try again when had friends visiting from abroad and still the landlord ruined the place. When I asked if we could have starters and mains at the same time, it was like I... More

Visiting in February we enjoyed taking our meal by the fireside. I had a lovely plaice with capers and prawns but most of all enjoyed my glass of Ghostship Adnam's beer! We really liked the decor, with black and white pictures of local fishermen and wood panelling. On a 2 day visit we enjoyed it sufficiently to come back a... More
