I've been going to this pub for years when visiting Southwold. The menu is extensive and the food served is delicious with large portions - true pub food. The experience is completely let down by the food ordering system as described in many other reviews. If you want to teach a child how to be patient then get them in... More

Booked a table but then had to queue to place an order. Yes it was bank holiday but i queued 30 minutes to place my order having been told to come to the bar and order. When it came the food was generous and very good. The management have to address the chaos at the bar.

We spent a family day in Southwold and spoke to a couple of residents as to where to eat. I specifically said that I fancied good fish & chips and the name that came up all the time was The Red Lion along with the tip of avoiding the pier or other fish & chip shops. On arrival we were... More

I can't believe the "system" used for ordering food in this pub! I joined a long queue at the bar because only ONE member of staff takes the food orders. For most of the time in which I was queuing - two bar men were standing chatting to each other! The queue was slow, people would want to know details... More

A Pub that thrives on location and lack of real competition delivers a poor customer experience at inflated prices. The beer is targeted at tourists and pitched at London prices without the service element - the staff may have been coping with a bank holiday crowd but it is supposed to be the customer being made happy in the process... Great position with charming staff. Was full every time I went in - people voting with their feet. Lovely view.

Exactly what a British pub should be! Busy every time we have visited Southwold and easy to see why - good beer and great selection of food. Slightly unusual food ordering service but everything cooked to order. Nice menu, excellent value and child friendly

We have enjoyed lots of meals in the last two weeks while staying in Southwold, this place is by far the busiest is Southwold, it's a huge pub, it's like a tardis, all the rooms and outside eating area were full every time we went in. We chose this pub because we have children, they know children here which is... More

Good range of food on offer, reasonably priced and food served was very good and hot. We had a little wait but this was to be expected as it was a Saturday Night and was busy. But we were in no rush so no issue. Would most certainly return,

Been to the Red Lion on numerous occasions- usually having salmon or smoked chicken salad. Had dinner last night and shown to the new room. I appears they have changed the menu as I couldn't see my favourites so ordered scampi. In the past the salmon has been melt in your mouth delicious and the chicken huge - with a... More
