The Chequers is an excellent pub which is well worth visiting. Popped in for sunday lunch and although the place is small, there is plenty of room for diners and drinkers alike. Excellent service from the waitress who took our orders and the white bait starter soon arrived, Large portion size and lovely home made tartare sauce to go with... More

Spent a lunchtime with my wife and two friends here during the week. Lovely inside and a nice welcome. Plenty of real ales on tap and the food is good. It's a good pub to visit and handy for visiting the Priory afterwards.

We had a meal there for a family members 70th Birthday. As a party of 9 the service was well catered for, lovely table, lovely waitress, lovely food. I had Pate for starters, followed by the Gammon steak with all the trimmings. My wife had the Parsnip and Apple soup with Venison Casserole with Mustardy mash for mains. We've been... More

Great atmosphere, good food and ales at reasonable prices. A great evening out. Service was perfect. Not an extensive menu, but good choice.

Enjoyable Saturday lunch time food! simple proper pub food at its best. Really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere- no pressure once you've eaten to get out like there is in some pubs! Really enjoyable. Will be returning. Staff all very friendly.

Something for most folk here and as welcoming as ever. I have visited "off and on" over a number of years and have always been made to feel welcome. The pub has changed hands in the last year and the new team seem just as friendly as the last. Steve the BeerMeister is no longer there and his creations are... More

The staff were welcoming, they adapted the menu to suit our needs, how many pubs do that? Comfortable atmosphere, good real ales.

The chequers has been our local for 13 years. In that time we have had the pleasure of 3 different landlords all of which have had their good points . Since Simon and Sarah ( brother and sister team) have taken over we have seen the pub blossom again. They are both local people and know and understand the area... More

I've been a fan of The Chequers for a few years now my last visit being a year ago just as the previous owners were on their way out. It had gone down hill but I'm pleased to say the new owners have done a great job getting it back on track. Good welcoming service, subtle but effective modernisation, 5... More
