The Hermitage Restaurant and Public House Acle, is situated on the A1064 approximately 500 yards from the A47 Acle Roundabout. It is a family owned and run establishment by Chris and Michele. The Hermitage has been a licensed premises for approximately 110 years It has been refurbished with new kitchens and a conservatory restaurant seating approximately 60 persons. Today the menu is largely Fresh Fish and Fresh Shellfish with a Speciality Steak Menu. Chris Carter and his family have been associated with the fish trade from Great Yarmouth since 1922. He personally goes to Lowestoft fish market 2 or 3 times a week and buys fresh fish including Dover Soles, Sea bass, Lemon soles, Turbot, Halibut,Trout and Salmon. We have a passion for good food and wine so using the best suppliers and ingredience is vital. We use the Frary Family from Wells on Sea in North Norfolk for our fresh lobsters and crabs during the summer. In the winter months we have mussels from Morston or the Wash. Local produce is used were possible with many salad and vegetables grown locally for us. Many of our desserts are homemade with fruit we have picked ourselves to ensure quality. There is also a snack menu with Jacket Potatoes, Sandwiches, ploughman's etc the lunch menu has traditional English food as well as the special fish. As all our dishes are cooked to order we can cater for many dietary requirements just ask for details. The Evening Menu has at least 12/15 Fresh Fish Dishes, steak, chicken, Pork and vegetarian options. Many of the receipts we have created ourselves. Brilliant - but now closed and replaced by 'Emprujo'

Had a delicious meal here, beautifully cooked fresh fish and crisp white wine. But that was last year. Now it has closed and been replaced by a Spanish Restaurant that still specialises in Fish (and steak I think)

We were staying close by at the Travel lodge and arrived at the Hermitage by mistake. So glad we did; the service was great. The food was fabulous; especially the seafood paella; it was meant to be for two people and we were unable to eat it all. When we are in the area again, we will not bother eating... More

We tried to visit this pub in October. It's now closed. Don't make the wasted trek down the dark muddy path from the river like we did. Go to the Bridge Inn, it's brilliant!

It is with some sadness I write this review, and I'm not sure why I never got around to writing one before, as I've visited this restaurant over many years, with family members and friends. It used to be a handy middle meeting place for my mother, late sister and I to meet up for lunch before my sister's untimely... More

We had being traveling on the broads for a few hrs and decided to stop here with the free mooring if you eat at the pub, so after walking the 1/2 mile in the dark on very uneven ground we walked in to what seemed an empty pub at 7pm and where told very bluntly we could not have a... More

On our midweek visit the restaurant was well attended and the reception from the staff was excellent. we were quickly served with our drinks in the reception area and given a reasonable amount of time to settle before we ordered the food. The food was ready in good order and we were accompanied to our table by the waitress carrying... More

Haddock and chips, blood ran out of fish , and chips were like they made from cardboard. I complained , and was politely asked to "come again and next time ask for it to be well cooked " Even though I never ate it , I got no redress. To add insult to injury I had to buy a lemonade... More

Couldn't be more helpful, waited for us and served past last orders, super dog friendly, very very welcoming. Fish platter went down well lots of information available on provenance. Good to see different veggie dishes, the quorn stir fry was a nice change. Sought out a fish/seafood place amongst the broads and got what we looked for. Not swanky or... More
