How many pollacks does it take...?

My wife's family is polish and when we go to Sokolowski's I like it, but she is in heaven. The stuffed cabbage (halupki) and the pierogi are standard and she has been surprised by a few unusual dishes from time to time. Absolutely authentic polish food, made from scratch just the way she... read more

Was ther with a group f co-workedfor an evening out and OMG, was the food good! YOu want comfort food, this is the place to go. Cabbage rolls as big as a softball made me think my grandmother was in the kitchen. Mashed potatos piled high with butter or gravy (no lumps!) and the house specialty Salisbury steak.(which actuelly look... More

This is not a place to go on a diet - but if you want a real taste of Cleveland's traditional Polish food dive in! The place is incredible and probably unlike anyplace you've ever been. When you enter you start with a wait in the cafeteria style service line. The dinners for the night are all filling and delicious...my... More

The best way to describe Sokolowski's University Inn is that it is an institution. If you are in Cleveland, it is a place that you must try at least once in your lifetime. The food is served cafeteria style, but it seems pretty fresh. The volume of people that pass through result in rapid replenishment of the steam table items.... More

Having lived in Germany I love coming here for some of that old country food. Everything is very good from the salad bar to the entrees to the desserts. The pierogies are delicious. Potatoes are always good. The service is excellent. You'll enjoy the dark wooden interior and perhaps even some live piano music. The bar always has friendly and... More

Sokolowski has lots of old school charm as you walk in by the bar. It is cafeteria style, and desserts are presented first in the line up. I had a huge cabbage roll loaded with meat, a bite or two of sausages which I swiped from my husband's plate, and halushki. Being Ukrankian it took me back to the dishes... More

...Sokolowski's is the oldest family run restaurant in the city of Cleveland, and has been going strong for 90 years. The interior was a little dark, but it reminds you of going into your grandparents' den. Sokolowski's serves mostly Polish food, cafeteria style. That means you get a tray, pick up your dessert, and then go along picking your entree... More

Sokolowski's has long been a cleveland staple. I'm Polish so I may be slightly biased, the food is delicious, portions are spot on ( may be large for some people ). One caveat is certain days are better to go than others as the daily specials change, might be worth to check that out before you make a trip.

You definitely don't want to miss an opportunity to eat at this, Cleveland's oldest family-owned restaurant. Go hungry, because the portions are huge. They have specials every day, but I went with the 5 pierogie plate with two sides. The desserts are homemade, too. This place has lots of character (and characters). Enjoy a beer and listen to the locals.

My wife is Polish, so a stop here was absolutely necessary. She reports that the pierogis are just like the ones her dad used to make. He's from Poland, so that means something. She had a HUGE cabbage roll with some kraut, and I had the stuffed green pepper. Both were delicious. The kraut was properly cooked, and not too... More
