Like eating at your favorite aunt's house

Sokolowski's is a Cleveland institution, and deservedly so. The food is truly old school - stuffed cabbage, Salisbury steak, kielbasa and always perogi. Well-cooked (especially the perogi) and substantial, it's not hard to imagine your grandfather having lunch 90 years ago under the same roof. Mine... read more

Mine likely did, as my dad's family lived in Tremont. It's not hip or trendy... More

low key, cafeteria style restaurant, what they lack in presentation they make up for in consistent quality. Love the potato pancakes and pierogis and cabbage rolls.

Arranged our Road trip around this resturant since my husband is Polish. let me start by saying there is NO were to park. Went on a saturday when it opened at 4 pm. It was cold stood in line then they did not open the door until 4:10. We go into the resturant there was already 25 people ahead of... More

Parking lot is tiny, the one in the back is no better. Very hard to find street parking since there was a bar crawl going on nearby. Food is good most of the time. Pierogi's are about the best homemade I've found short of making my own. I wish they would use sharp cheddar but they do not. Usually crowded,... More

The buffet style may be a little cumbersome at times and the decor needs updated, but one thing I know for certain is that I'll be walking away knowing I had a great meal. Historically, the salisbury steak has been my go-to meal, but this time I went with the chicken paprikash for the first time and now I have... More

This is an old world old school polish restaurant near downtown Cleveland and it is admittedly an institution. It is a buffet restaurant and the line can be very long (10-20 minutes on a Friday night). The decor is fabulous with lots of antique and cultural items on the wall. And the staff if very nice. If you are into... More

Having lived in Cleveland all our lives, we had heard of this restaurant but had never tried it. Today we went there for lunch. The place is not fancy, but cozy--just what we expected from this family-owned Cleveland landmark. There was a line at noon, even though it is Tuesday. I had salisbury steak and my husband had the meatloaf.... More

My wife and I went to Sokolowski's University Inn on a Saturday night. For starters, there's no place to park. Once you find a place, you enter the restaurant and stand in a line that literally laps the restaurant. The interior is a clutter of memorabilia with tables jammed everywhere. The place doesn't look clean. We waited for 45 minutes... More

I can't remember what day of the week it was, but it was worth the wait in the queue that pretty much lapped the restaurant. The staff are friendly and it felt like I'd come to dinner at a close friends house who happens to be a great chef! Recommend 100%

I grew up in Cleveland and missed this for years. When I finally got to go, you couldn't stop me from going again, and again, and again. There is a gentleman who plays the piano to about any tune you can think of and smiles for all of it. My favorite is to ask him him to "play it again"... More
