Called in for a refreshing drink of tea. The person serving looked as though he would have been more at home in a greasy spoon! He wasn't interested in providing us with drinks unless we had scones or food with them. Just offered us takeaway drinks.

And the tea room too! This seemed like an eccentric place to have a drink! First mistake! The scruffy sign on the main road should have alerted us! Not a very pleasant smell or decor. The tea was made with leaves in a cafetière. I had scones & survived, my wife had a jacket potato. Difficult to get away as... More

Owner was keen to chat and banter in an insulting and unfunny way. He didn't seem to like anyone who wasn't from his part of the world giving generalised unflattering opinions about the areas each of our party came from. Six ice creams cost £22 then we were told that he'd made a mistake and it would be an eye... More

2 words .... Filthy hovel!! Avoid at all costs! Dirty plates and cups Flies all around Filthy owner , no customers in but plenty of people around! Says it all really. We tipped our drinks away for fear of catching something bad and left! Should have never entered but hence didn't see trip advisor before we went in. If you... More

We found the tearoom unlike the other visitors as we were the only customers. The décor is old and it did look like the business was going through a bad patch. We did not have any hot food but what we had was nice but a bit expensive. The tea was however made with loose tea leaves. The owner is... More

The owner was boastful of his business, there was no one in it. Every year we have gone in just once and every year it has declined. The restaurant was cluttered and appeared dirty, the owner was dishevelled and his hands appeared dirty when serving the food. Although the scones were lovely the home made jam was too sickly sweet... More

My suggestion- keep well away from here. Castleton is a lovely village and everywhere seemed to be of a good standard except the Hidden Tearoom- oh that it has remained hidden but we were looking for ice creams and cream teas and he seemed to be offering both at a reasonable rate. We ate outside so didn't have to suffer... More

We visited this tearoom on Saturday 12th July during a family weekend to celebrate my brother's50th birthday. The owner managed to reduce one of our young people to tears with his 'humour' which resulted in her and her boyfriend leaving us and put a HUGE dampener on our wonderful afternoon. We had already placed an order for cream teas so... More

Tea rooms very run down. Dirty with no toilet facilities. We decided not to eat as the place as it was so disgusting. Intimidating man, who looked dirty, became nasty on us trying to leave!

We too went here, we're told that we could not have coffee on its own so we ordered the proffered scones, and they were delicious.... Lovely circus models moving to keep the kids entertained, owner telling us stories of when mark Benton and robson green were filming local and eating there, was a strange bloke admittedly, but not rude just...
