We've been in a couple of times before just for drinks too and love the atmosphere, such a quaint cosy pub, especially nice when the fire is roaring. We recently had a lovely meal on a very busy Friday evening, service was good, food was yummy, plentiful and all home cooked. Would highly recommend!

Had a pleasant meal here. Typical pub grub. Nice setting and very pleasant staff. Quite pricey for what it was but nice all the same.

We are away for a few days with our puppy and were looking for somewhere to eat, I found this on the dog friendly peaks website and we decided to give it a try. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. We went for dinner, the food is home-cooked and fantastic value for money, brilliant portion sizes and the desserts... More

A very cosy and well maintained pub with friendly staff and excellent pub food - good value too. A great range of beers on offer. Dog friendly in one of the bars. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening there and will be back on our next visit to Castleton.

The Gamekeeper's pie was one of the best we have every eaten. Lovely atmosphere, cracking food, and extremely well priced.

Great food, friendly staff. There are no children allowed in the bar which makes it a very relaxed atmosphere which is rare nowadays.

Recently spent a few nights in Castleton, and frequented this pub each night. The beer is excellent and all from local breweries in either South Yorkshire or Derbyshire - a real plus in itself. On our final night we chose to eat there and we were not disappointed. The starter of mixed meats and olives was excellent - my wife... More

We had the Cheshire Cheese Inn recommended to us by previous tenants of the cottage we rented in Castleton for a short break this week. We paid it a visit for the first time on a quiet Monday night, and we were not disappointed. We found a table in the quiet restaurant and ordered food and drinks. The barman and... More

As we were staying at the Caravan Club Site 5 minutes walk away we called in for a meal and a drink. I had the chicken cobbler which was very nice and my husband had the innkeepers pie which he said he really enjoyed. The beer and the wine were very nice too (wine a bit pricey). The staff were...
