What a surprise!

We were staying in the area for a couple of nights so searched Trip Advisor for somewhere to eat. We'd never had found it otherwise as it's tucked behind a fairly ordinary looking pub in an off the track village. But well worth the taxi ride (which Poppy, who does "front of house" very kindly... read more

We made a last minute booking (table cancellation) at this very local restaurant which we have never visited before. The taster menu was the only option and not what we had in mind but we're so glad we experienced this wonderful array of dishes and flavours. Every course was excellent, wonderfully presented and all delivered with impeccable service. We couldn't... More

We booked this meal as we were camping near Ashbourne. Poppy was very helpful in sorting out a taxi for us, although we didn't realise just how far outside Ashbourne the restaurant was, so had a pretty hefty taxi bill. The whole experience was excellent. The only food being served was the taster menu, but boy was it good. I... More

My husband & I visited on Friday night (17/4) and loved it. We had been recommended it by family and we had the Chefs Taster menu. The food was absolutely gorgeous, a real treat. A variety of flavours & presentation. Nothing could be faulted. The service was also great, very attentive but unobtrusive. Worth every penny, thank you for a... More

I was here with family on Easter and it was a lovely afternoon of good food and wine with excellent service. They describe the menu as modern British food, with ingredients sourced as much as possible from nearby. The result is flavors that pop, and food that is innovative without getting over-wrought about itself. Portions are generous and plates are... More

We have just enjoyed a marvellous lunch at The Lighthouse. Charles is a talented cook so we are used to eating lovely food and eating out is sometimes a disappointment. Our favourite restaurants are Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons (Raymnd Blanc), The Waterside (Roux) and Simpsons in Birmingham. You are right up there with them. The food, service, ambience and attention... More

We dined at The Lighthouse with two of our friends, we went for a special offer - the tasting menu for £35 and it was all wonderful. Started with a little soup taster with roasted pumpkin seeds on top, then a fish scotch egg with chorizo, then scallops with quail, then beef with garlic, then a passion fruit & white... More
