Good food at reasonable prices

We had a nice meal in the Okeover arms. The portions were quite large and the prices were reasonable. The batter on fish and chips was so light and crispy, the chips were chunky and delicious. The only disappointment was that the steaks we ordered were well under cooked so one of them had to be... read more

Great home cooked fare - 3 large sausages (pork and cranberry, pork and stilton, lamb and mint) all served in yorkshire pud, mash, vegetables and gravy enjoyed by 2 very hungry walkers. A perfect end to a day walking in Dovedale.

Found this little place on trip advisor, and decided to chance it. SO GLAD WE DID. We were camping at Callow Top and found that both of their pub do not allow dogs, we found the Okeover Arms and went for a meal, great little place, friendly service, good food, reasonably priced and they allow dogs in the bar. WELL... More

Got caught in thunder storms during our walk and although we'd intended heading off to a favourite pub in Fenny Bentley we asked whether there might be a table available for 4 wet walkers and a wet dog. They were very accommodating and what a find this proved to be. Lovely substantial meals at a very reasonable price. The lamb... More

Went to the Okeover for an evening meal with a family of eight over three generations. Firstly, advise to book because the place was buzzing in and out. Lovely village location. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times. The menu was very good with 'Smallerbites for smaller people' at very reasonable prices. The atmosphere added to the evening.... More

A bit off the beaten track but well placed for Ashbourne and as a base for a walk through Dovedale, this is an excellent pub. Ashbourne has a real dearth of evening eating venues and instead, a handful of below average tea rooms for day visitors and a couple of horribly greasy chippies in the market square. There's a complete... More

The food was first class, from my daughter's vegetarian squash curry, my wife's fish and chips to my succulent steak with hand- cut chips, all washed down with some superb local ale. If the great food wasn't enough, the value for money was superb and when we next visit Ashbourne, the Oakover Arms will be on the menu

Spent two nights in the Oakover Arms. It was clean, the owners and staff were helpful and friendly. The room was big and quiet. Standard pub menu , but very well cooked food. Beautiful location and good walking straight out of the front door. If you are looking for a decent pub to stay in for a night or two... More

We stopped here for dinner this evening after a recommendation from another pub in Ashbourne who had stopped serving food. It's a lovely pub with nice decor, bar staff were friendly and helpful. As it was a nice day we sat outside in the gardens. Well catered for children with climbing frames, swings, Wendy houses and even a bouncy castle... More
