My wife and I went into the Coach and Horses on Friday night with our 2 young children. We were staying nearby and had gone into Ashbourne looking for a family-friendly pub with good food. I asked a local where we could get good food in Ashbourne, and he said the only place was the Coach and Horses. When we... More

We visited the coach and horses twice over the easter bank holiday and had variable experiences. The first meal was in the "restaurant area", which seems to be mostly overflow seating. Since there was a roast on the specials board we tried our luck, but while the veg and potatoes were good, the meat was slightly dry. On the second... More

Absolute gem of a place..can't believe anyone could give this place anything but awesome reviews...! The landlord and lady are by far the most welcoming and friendliest I've come across in a long time...the food is all freshly prepared..nothing pre packed and microwaved...! If every landlord and lady were like this im sure the pub trade would pick up ten... More

I am really not sure where all the 5* reviews came from, unless we hit a really off night. A Wednesday and it wasn't busy. The man behind the bar was morose and hardly welcoming. I asked if it had rained recently as the car park was very muddy with lots of puddles, and he replied that he hadn't been... More

We came across the pub on a walk away from the Tissington trail. To start the welcome was very friendly and there were two roaring fires. The Pedigree beer was first class. Unusually we both had the same meal which was a gammon steak with eggs i.e. not one but two eggs. The steaks and the eggs were well cooked.... More

We stopped at this pub on our way back from a weekend away in Manchester. The staff are very welcoming to anyone and everyone who walks through the door and the pub itself is cosy with wood burning fires. We chose a roast beef dinner which was superb, the meat was tender and plenty of it with a huge yorkshire... More

Without question we have just had one of the best pub meals ever for us. The food was good and served with a pleasant smile, near to a warm welcoming open fire. What more could one ask for on a cold January day!

After a warm welcome from the waitresses and a great service from the lovely bar lady I was directed to a table by a cosy fire which gave a great relaxed atmosphere, I orded the steak and my wife orded the duck. Both had great flavour as well as a fantastic portion size, they were well worth the money. I... More

I have been visiting this pub for the last 47 years and have always found it warm and welcoming. I now live in Lichfield, Staffordshire and have done for over 30 years but always come back here from time to time. We had a delicious lunch here on New Year's Day and as always it was very enjoyable. Friendly staff... More
