This is a character listed property of over 400 year old that has recently undergone a major re-furbishment. With a new commercial kitchen, contemporary style furniture, restored original wooden flooring from the deck of a ship and hand painted murals, this is a family business of over 105 years old that is one, if not the oldest, in the Lake District. During the day, downstairs we are a fully licensed bistro style restaurant with traditional Italian style take away fish & chips. In the evening, by prior arrangement, we open to offer a private dining experience. We are not like the other restaurants in the area with a large busy bar. Our ambition is to remain very small and exclusive. We can cater for between 2 and 12 people each evening with the facility becoming yours. For larger parties, you have your own chief and waitress. We offer a standard menu but prefer to design a menu of seafood and steaks as you prefer. We offer a fine wine list, some beers and a selection of fine Scottish malt whiskey.

Awfully undercooked chips

Chips were very undercooked, what can I say its a chip shop and they get that wrong. Nice staff and building but terrible chips.

Look down at the floor , this place is truly filthy ! Dog wondering round in food prep area , small portions of unfresh (& unidentified) fish also full of bones , chips also disgusting and greasy. Should be closed down or at least INSPECTED by the food standards authority .

By local standard poor portion sizes and not the best cooked - portion sizes are about half that of other local fish and chip shops. And that's all it is a fish and chip shop.

The chips appeared warmed up, yet still hard. The fish was poor. This was a group order organised for a work do and it was really disappointing.

Just strolled in to grab a fish & chip takeaway, I stood outside with the dogs whilst my partner went in to order, however we were all invited to come inside and the dogs were treated like special guests! The ladies there were very welcoming to us all and chatted very pleasantly as our fish & chips were freshly prepared.... More

I popped into Arrighis after having a walk around the towns historic harbour. All I can say is, wow. The chips are one of the best that I have tasted from a chippie - very tasty and you get loads. I had pie & peas with my chips. Mmmmmm. Heaven. You must taste this pie. It is homemade, and quite... More

Have just visited Arrighi's for the first time this evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. Would highly recommend it to anyone. Everything is freshly cooked and the service was excellent! A small restaurant with a big friendly welcome, thank you for a lovely evening Carla & Maria

Visited Arrighi's seafood restaurant on a bleak Monday between Christmas and New Year being enticed in strangely not by sea food but by the daily special of Home Made Meat and Potato Pie, Chips, Peas and Gravy for the remarkable price of less than a fiver. There was a warm feel to the restaurant with customers seeming to be enjoying... More

Upstairs ... fish restaurant was incredible. Lovely atmosphere, very relaxed and great food. It wouldn't be out of place in a bigger city so something quite different for Whitehaven. Really enjoyable and we will definitely go back.
