Ranked #19 of 45 Restaurants in Whitehaven
Certificate of Excellence 2014
Price range: $5 - $40
Cuisines: Seafood, Bistro, Oyster Bar, Fish & Chips
Dining options: Breakfast/Brunch, Reservations, Late Night
Description: This is a character listed property of over 400 year old that has recently undergone a major re-furbishment. With a new commercial kitchen, contemporary style furniture, restored original wooden flooring from the deck of a ship and hand painted murals, this is a family business of over 105 years old that is one, if not the oldest, in the Lake District. During the day, downstairs we are a fully licensed bistro style restaurant with traditional Italian style take away fish & chips. In the evening, by prior arrangement, we open to offer a private dining experience. We are not like the other restaurants in the area with a large busy bar. Our ambition is to remain very small and exclusive. We can cater for between 2 and 12 people each evening with the facility becoming yours. For larger parties, you have your own chief and waitress. We offer a standard menu but prefer to design a menu of seafood and steaks as you prefer. We offer a fine wine list, some beers and a selection of fine Scottish malt whiskey.

We had fish and chips 5 times, and it was all cooked freshly. The tartar sauce was lovely, the lady said she made her own. The batter on the fish was melt in your mouth. Can't really ask for more from fish and chips on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Had fresh cooked cod and chips there yesterday, the batter was the worst I have ever tasted anaemic soggy batter covered slimy fish and hard tastes chips. Only eat one mouthful the rest went in the bin.

We ate here following a recommendation. Delightfully friendly service with very fresh food. Good selection of wines too.

Brief visit to Whitehave, enjoyed really excellent fish, chips, mushy peas and tea in the little outside terrace. Dogs also made very welcome. Lovely friendly service, and can't remember I had fish and chips as good as this. Seagulls sqwaking in the background too. Lovely.

After dining at Carla Arrighi's restaurant I found the food and service excellent. So i wounder if the people who have put the derogatory remarks about the restaurant on line have actually dined there, or is this just a dirty tricks campaign by disgruntled council supporters who havn't the courage to put their names to them.

Working in Whitehaven and stopped here for a take away as not much time. Looked in the window and saw the TripAdvisor award so thought it must be ok even though my gut instinct was to walk straight back out when I entered. Wish I followed my gut!!! Frankly the worst fish and chips I've ever had. Yesterday's chips not... More

I'm a regular visitor to Arrighis. The food is perfect. The shop has been on the go for 100 years, so that in itself should tell the customer what to expect. Downstairs, there is a traditional chippy, upstairs you are waited on, just like at any top notch restaurant. The staff are down to earth, and really good fun. Well... More

Tried this chippy today, firstly I waited in the queue for 15 minutes for two portions of chips! Got served by a lady with blonde hair which should have been in a hairnet or AT LEAST tied up but was hanging freely as she was cooking and wrapping my food! When I eventually got my chips I opened them to... More

My wife and I were visiting the Whitehaven area for a couple of days and were looking for somewhere to eat in the evening. We noticed the signs on the outside of Arrighi’s were advertising fresh fish. The menu in the window looked good so we booked a table for that night. Back at the B&B we looked at the... More

Terrible , over priced and food was rubbish ! paid over £100 for 4 people (2 course ) . The so called fresh fish was either frozen or tinned ! The meal was tasteless , would never recommended and never visit again . To be honest they need to give up advertising that they are a seafood restaurant,
