Really nice evening

Went here on a 'Date night' with my partner, never been before (Despite living locally) and after asking workmates for recommendations this was one of the two quite highly favoured. So...on arrival we found the atmosphere, pub surroundings, and staff all very inviting and 'homely'. The Menu... read more

Booked a table for a meal this evening with hubby, my son and his lady for their birthdays - last minute - (had planned to go elsewhere but they were full) - and wasn't expecting anything special as last time ventured in there was years ago.... How wrong was I... Absolutely lovely. Food was hot and very very tasty. Service... More

This has to have been one of the best meals we've ever had. Each course was faultless - presentation beautiful, tastes exquisite and the right quantity to fill you up rather than just feeling like you were experiencing art on a plate. Unfortunately we didn't have room for a pud which was a shame as the dessert menu looked delicious... More

I imagine that the General would be an entirely different place on a summer’s evening, but it wasn’t summer when we went. It was the middle of a very cold early spring day. We went for lunch towards the end of service on a Wednesday afternoon, and the welcome was glowing from the start, just like the log fire. We... More

Thank you for your recent custom and your review. Our pub is indeed very different in the summer and the winter, it's lovely to sit outside on a warm summers evening, however ot's just as nice cosied up in front of the fire in the colder weather, which we happen to have a lot more of in these parts of... what a find, my mum has spoken about the general burgoyne before but we had never been, we had the beef and the lamb on the sunday roast, absolutely delicious, the best meat we have ever eaten on a sunday roast, so tender and melt in the mouth, the dauphinoise my partner now wants to try to recreate at home... Thank you for your lovely review and kind words. We're thrilled you enjoyed your meal with us so much. Next time you're in, and if it's not too busy in the kitchen, please do ask to speak with Craig and he'll be happy to give you a run down on how to produce perfectly delicious dauphinoise potatoes! We look forward... More

We were recommended this pub for a good meal, and we weren't disappointed. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, very friendly staff, good beer, and a good selection of food for all tastes on the menu. The deserts in particular were excellent!

Lovely treat on Good Friday - fish & chips to go! Pre-ordered so ready when we went to pick them up. Great value and just the right sized portion. Served traditionally in newspaper! Will be having them again.

Thank you for such a lovely review Jenny! And thank you also for your loyal custom, yourself and your family and friends are a pleasure to cater for! I do agree that the most perfect experience is as a couple, cosy and relaxed in front of the fire! We look forward to welcoming you on many occasions in the future!... More

As locals, we go to the General Burgoyne whenever we fancy a really good meal as a bit of a treat. I have been as part of a big party (we had my 30th there because there was nowhere else I trusted to cater for my family and closest friends) and we had a fantastic time, but it really comes... More

Thank you so much for your lovely review! It's very much appreciated! We're so pleased to hear you enjoy both our food and the ambiene of our pub, and we do agree that the table infront of the fire could quite possibly be the best in the building! Family visit for Sunday lunch. It was lovely and reasonably priced. Building is interesting with a spooky surprise by the fire. A bit out of the way, but worth looking for.
