The General Burgoyne offers a winning combination of good food and a good pint or glass of wine. It is more than just a local village pub, offering a good selection of bistro style food to suit every taste, coupled with a friendly welcome and good service. We have eaten here twice while staying in the village, the first time... More

We have eaten many times at the General Burgoyne and have always enjoyed the food and the ambience. Last night we were just out for a 'cook's night off' so we tried the 'Two Courses for £10 Menu' Once again it was excellent! Great quality and great value. Thank you to Craig, Louise and your excellent staff. A wonderful place... More

The food and service was really superb - we couldn't fault anything. As for the place itself, despite the comments left by the owners in response to other reviewers' suggestion that it isn't a country inn, we would agree. Te General Burgoyne is more like a restaurant with a bar and sitting area. Which is fine - because it is... More

As we were staying in Little Urswick for a few weeks the General Burgoyne became our local. We had a lovely BBQ on Fathers Day sat outside listening to a jazz band. We also took friends one day for a mid week lunch and had the 2 courses for £10. On the last Sunday before we left for home we... More

Having read the reviews our first choice restaurant was the Farmers inn but as we could not get a table booked here. The food was of a very high standard at a reasonable price. As the restaurant is 3 miles outside Ulverston it does not get the traffic of the Farmers arm . If though you are a foodie you... More

My boyfriend and I took my dad here as a late Father's Day treat and I'm so pleased we did! The service was fab and the food was divine! The roast tomato soup was the best I've ever tasted. I'd highly recommend the General Burgoyne to anyone who appreciates great food.

A pub I've frequented on and off for around 30 years has in recent years stepped up several gears. The food is simply superb. There is a good choice of menu, and all the food is well presented and of excellent quality. Well cooked and with interesting flavours, such as spring-onion bharji with a Westmoreland cheese sauce, or peanuts with... More

Thank you for your recent visit and your lovely review. So pleased t hear that you consider our food to be 'simply superb' - that's the reaction we're looking for when we compose our menu - which uses only the best quality local seasonal produce put together in an interesting way - things are not always as they first seem... Went for a birthday dinner and couldn't fault it. We were seated quickly, staff were attentive and the food was gorgeous. Would recommend this place to family and friends.

This is my third visit to this restaurant and each time it cannot be faulted. We came for a family birthday and, as ever, the quality of the food and service was excellent. My only small (and insignificant) gripe is that the dining area can get exceptionally warm despite windows being open. However, this is minor in contrast to the... More

15 of us booked in for a 70th birthday celebration meal. We arrived and had drinks in the lounge. We were seated quickly and efficiently. All of the food arrived quickly and was steaming hot, even the plates were warm. I have absolutely no complaints with the food whatsoever. My main course of lamb was to die for, it melted... More

Thank you for your kind words and your recent visit. The lamb dish you mention is very popular, one of our best sellers! I'll pass on your comments to our staff and in particular to Andy, the bar man you mention who as a university student works for us occasional weekends and during holiday times - his personality is infectious!...
