Driven past this place a few times when visiting my partner's sister in Thursby, so glad we finally took her advice and called in for cake on the way past. Lovely atmosphere for a midweek afternoon in September; a few walkers and a dog, a cluster of locals embroidering church kneelers over a pot of tea, and two friendly staff... More

We went to Mae's last Sunday morning when visiting friends who live nearby. It has become something of a tradition for us to call in on a Sunday and as ever it was a pleasure with great coffee and home baking served by smiling, attentive staff all in a lovely setting with work by local artists on the walls. Looking... More

Been to Mae's often, would love to live nearer as whatever you want, be it tea/coffee toast/scones/sunday lunch/curry nights/specialist nights etc Mae's has it all. Owners make you so welcome you feel at home immediately. Food is amazing, we visit many tea rooms but this is the best and it offers much more than other tea rooms, gallery etc and... More

We went to mae's again last weekend for an evening meal whilst we were touring the lakes. We have been there before and the food and hospitality is always excellent, whatever time of the year we have visited. It is cosy, welcoming and never rushed. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

What a delightful experience it was to discover Maes tearooms. Converted from the village school, it is a building with great charm, character and a real country feel, especially with the open fires. My family and I opted for coffee, cakes and scones and were not disappointed. Real homebaked cakes are a rarity these days and everything tasted wonderful. The... More

We've been to Mae's a lot, can't pass by without popping in for great scones and tea and generally pick up a few pieces from the gallery and have always recommended it to friends and family. Called in this bank holiday though and it seems things are slipping, everything looked just a wee bit untidy? we ordered some sandwiches and... More

We dropped in here when looking to park my van prior to a walk. Had a couple of drinks, wife had a scone, I had a 'Rhubarb & raspberry crumble' which was delicious. They let us leave the van all afternoon, so we dropped back in on our return. Oddly enough, the coffee was much better the second time. What... More

Another lovely trip with two friends - a friendly smile and fresh warm scones - well risen too. What better way to spend a wet Thursday morning!

We live locally and go to Mae's often. Always have a great lunch and this weekend the icecream was to die for. Cakes all homemade and had to restrain oursleves from pigging out. Thanks Team Mae's. You are doing a great job of keeping us all fed. Great atmosphere as always and always interesting to see you new artists displaying... More
