Beautiful little tea room

After a long walk with the dogs, we sat outside next to the beck, watching the birds whilst having a pot of tea and the most gorgeous fruit scone with jam and clotted cream. The service was excellent and the staff brought out the tea to us on the bench. Would recommend. Two cups of tea and a... read more

After an early afternoon walk up Binsey Fell on 23 June my wife and I headed for Uldale looking for a tearoom more in hope than expectation and found a gem located in the old village school. The walls of the 2 main rooms were adorned with lots of pleasant paintings and with many of the old fixtures and fittings... More

Had dinner here on Friday evening. Beer on the terrace with views up to Skiddaw - nice start. Garlic mushrooms to start - delicious! Big portion and very tasty! Main course of chicken stuffed with cheese, sundries tomatoes, and broccoli, wrapped in bacon. Great tasty vegetables too. Puddings were great too. Mae's is a great location, great food and deserves... More

We were staying in the area and visited at lunchtime on our last day. There is a great deal of choice on the menu (including hot dishes) and a good selection of cakes to choose from. The tea rooms are also open on Sunday's for lunch as well as evenings throughout the week (see website for details). Although it may... More

Myself and 3 friends dropped in as we fancied a change after being told about the tea room. Lovely place in a great setting, the staff were very pleasant another food was fantastic quality. We will certainly be back to explore the menu further. Marc

Wonderful little hidden gem. We had bacon butty, sticky toffee pudding, scone and jam and teas. All delicious. Great value for money and a lovely atmosphere with very friendly staff. Setting is fab and you can watch the cows playing in the adjacent field while you have your lunch. Very pretty building and the art for sale is worth a... More

Found this place just by accident driving around. Had a lovely ham sandwich - ham was thickly sliced on lovely bread with a nice side salad. They did lovely cakes and deserts and I can vouch for the cheesecake which was truly devine ! Great viewing platform outside for views towards Skiddaw. This place is well worth a visit for... More

Recommended to us by the home owners at our recent house sit, Mae's is a lovely spot. A very welcoming tea room cum gallery in a fine old building with high ceilings, huge windows, and a great feeling of space. Beautiful views. It was a great way to spend an hour on a rainy afternoon. We felt very cosy, eating... More

What a lovely atmosphere tonight. Once again Mae's pulled it off - a coherent and well planned display. Wine and nibbles were welcome and great to meet and chat to the artists. We didn't have time for the preview meal - wish we had!

Recently spent a long weekend working in the beautiful Lake Distract close to The village of Uldale and stumbled over the Tea rooms called Mae's. We both had a fantastic evening meal of Steak & Chips (real thick cut chips) and could not fault it. The staff were all friendly and helpful and there was a great atmosphere in the... More
